Religion in this term is mean : a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects

from greek word it mean re-ligare meaning to tie again with God, therefore they believe god will help them with all the crisis that they will face, and of course prevent them to hurt the rich people..

Its a cynical statement about the use of religion or the church as a control over the less fortunate.

Often people fear God or gods more than mortal law. You can break a mortal law and get away with it but God or the gods see and know all. There is no escaping their judgment.
