I sincerely love this question. I've often wondered how many people, when first going into someone's home, actually "absorb" what they see & feel. The place where someone "dwells" says so much about them. I'm actually turned off by the sterility of freshly vacuumed white carpets, & "end tables" set just so, as if I were entering a hotel suite. Conversely, people who live like that, are turned off by what they consider my "clutter." (Such people never make me feel welcome, or become friends.) One of my most recent comments (by an electrician!) was that my home looked like an enchanting antique shop. He even knew the "vintage" of a German helmet, & a Spanish galleon, & the thingee that looks like a small harp is indeed a pianophone. Smells? One would probably "smell" garlic every single day. & sprays of rosemary, or incense. I'd have to say that people feel welcome in my home, when they come to my birthday brunch every New Year's day in spite of games, or whatever. I don't have a ten foot sofa, but lots of pillows on the floor, & besides all the artifacts, the paintings, the low & unobtrusive music, my attitude invites them to be who they will. Yes. My home is a welcoming place! Thanks for the question. Edit: Forgot to mention food, & a beautful cat. A welcoming home, to me, is one that is LIVED in.
