My daughter has a cousin she just heard from who's in Iraq. He told her there is a program for injured soldiers from Iraq to get Christmas cards. All they ask is that when people are filling out their Christmas cards to simply add one extra to their list. If every person would send just one card it would be so wonderful for those who have no family. They ask that a card (no money, just a card) is sent to:
A Recovering American Soldier
c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center
6900 Georgia Avenue,NW
Washington,D.C. 20307-5001

i'm hesitant to write this, but I will at the risk that it may be misunderstood.

family members that go there are only partially supported, they have to pay for rooms like at the malone house and such or they are given vouchers to cover the cost.

i can't remember the specifics of all this, but you can call walter reed during normal business hours and ask for the army relief (army raising money to help wounded soldiers) and that money will stay at walter reed.

if this question will remain open until tomorrow, i will call and get the address to send money if you are so inclined to help soldiers, and it is tax deductible.

This was a lovely thought - so thank you for posting it -- i live in the UK but i was going to send some cards - i then read Justsyd's answer and thought how sad - but understandable.
Nice thought though...Bless you

Will do, I understand the need to do so, I'm a veteran of the Vietnam War, purple heart...., I'll take this up to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and post it on our bulletin board.
