I was going through one of my old trunks and found a set of prayer beads. Hadn't seen then in years. They were given to me by a nice lady in Nicaragua around 20 years ago. She said that her prayers would be with me in the jungle. Well, I'm still here so it definately didn't hurt any. Back to the point; I'd thought about sending the beads back to her (provided I can find the address and she's still alive) along with a spirit drum, and a picture of myself with my baby. I'm not sure if I should actually send the beads, or have a picture taken wearing the beads, maybe with the baby holding the drum. What do you think?

If you can locate this fine woman, I think she might be confused as to why you were returning them. Maybe you could take a picture of your baby wearing them and include a letter of gratitude explaining that you still think of her and appreciate her thoughtful gift. Your goal is noble and I think that might make her feel great. Let her believe that you believe that her gifts were what allowed you to survive and bring a new life into this world. You want to pass this gift from her down to your own blood who means more to you than anything in this life. I think she would never forget your kindness and appreciation for the rest of her life. I hope you find her and are able to give her this heart felt gift of love. It would make for a great nonfiction story.

Just send the spirit drum and picture.
She gave the beads out of concern and wouldn't understand why you would send them back. If you wish, gift them to someone, telling them the story of the wonderful woman in Nicaragua, pass the prayers along.

I'd keep the beads since she intended for you to have them. I'd send her the spirit drum and a picture of you, wearing the beads holding your baby. I bet she'd really appreciate it and enjoy seeing that you are still around.

I think the picture with you with the beads, etc. would be a better idea. She may find it insulting if you send them back, even if it's not meant that way. I was once told my an old wise man that a gift is a gift, no matter what, and returning it isn't appropriate. It was when he was giving me money and I tried to refuse. I saw the sincerity in his eyes and it stuck with me.

Maybe you could tell her that you would like her to pass them down to someone in her family?
BTW----was that before or after the earthquake? I would have used the prayer beads if it had been during!!!!

I would keep them, no matter what your belief ... They were a gift of love and a part of your life. I am a Christian, but I would keep a gift like that, no matter what "faith" they came from..Love is a gift to be shared and cherished. Perhaps when you are old, you can pass them on.

I am thinking the picture with you wearing them. Show her you still have them and maybe even let her know they will be passed on.
