"Better to be unborn than untaught, for ignorance is the root of all misfortune."
-- Aristotle
"The fact that a believer is happier than a skeptic is no more to the point than that a drunken man is happier than a sober one. The happiness of credulity is a cheap and dangerous quality."
-- George Bernard Shaw
"I want no heaven for which I must give my reason; no happiness in exchange for my liberty, and no immortality that demands the surrender of my individuality. Better rot in the windowless tomb, to which there is no door but the red mouth of the pallid worm, than wear the jeweled collar of a god."
-- Robert Green Ingersoll
I personally think that happiness is not so easily quantified as some want to believe it is.

All other variables would then NOT be the same, because theists would have to live their lives according to their religious beliefs.
I think that atheists are often happier because we create our own code of what's right and wrong, so it's often more modern than a lot of religious texts. But some people need the structure that theism gives.
It really depends on the person.

hmm. this is a good question, however, there is no definate answer, being that religious choices have no real happiness factor no matter if you are a theist or an athiest. Many people i know who practice a specific religion are very unhappy and feel very trapped and like they aren't fully living. but many of them are also happy...., most of the athiests i know are quite happy, but there are a few i know, who wish they felt a greater purpose, i think the diferance is in the personal value you put into your method of spirituality, athiests are largely misunderstood as being nonspiritual, thats not always the case, they are able to find happiness in thier lives just as easy or easier than most devout religous folks. Its the common misconception of many religions, that happiness is only granted to the devout....when in fact it is our own concept of happy and sad that dictates our success in life, as well as personal situations and luck....but to answer you outright, i would say its equally easy for both parties to find happiness and success.

Well, atheists don't have any problem with all the new scientific discoveries including evolution, and so on. So, in general, i think atheists live a more happier life with their surroundings.

I think the Atheists would say Atheists and the Theists would say they were. I'm a Christian so of course I feel we Theists are happier, more secure and have more peace in our souls. So it depends who you ask. lol

It depends entirely on the persons life.
Though Christians usually get some false happiness a couple fo days a week. When they're not just comparing clothes at church.
