Hi. I am a first-grade teacher and I have a room parent who is always bringing in treats for the kids, buying supplies for our classroom, and helping with crafts. I know she is doing this because she values her daughter's education (and she realizes teacher don't have the funds to buy all this stuff themselves).

Last time she brought in treats, my students expressed a desire to get her a little gift because she is always helping us. I already had them make thank-you cards for her a few months ago. Does anyone have any great ideas of a little thank-you gift we could give her, maybe around Christmas time? (I know this isn't necessary -- I just think it's great that the students want to express their appreciation and I want to encourage that. It's not really appropriate for it to be an expensive gift, as the reason she is buying stuff for the classroom is that she knows I don't have the money to purchase it all. It would be great if the kids could make something.)

Make her a Christmas wreath out of the children's hands. You buy the foam sheets from AC Moore or Michaels and have each one trace their hand and cut it out (with help of course). Glue each one (with fingers facing outward) onto a wreath pattern cut out from posterboard. After foam is set you can decorate it further with a bow made from the red foam or even ribbon. You can attach magnet tape to the back for it to hang from a mailbox/refrigerator or you can attach floral wire to the rear for it to hang on a door/doorknob/wall. The kids can also personalize their handprint with markers. I have one my son made in the first grade and I love it!! It's something she can keep forever! You can have fun with this and make it your own project. Good luck & I think it's very nice that you & your class are doing this.

I think this is just an awesome idea. I'm so impressed with you and your students. It should be something that the kids make all together in the spirit of them expressing their appreciation. Maybe a card, story or poem that they all compose together. Good luck with this project. I think its great.

If you had taken pictures of the projects that she had helped to fund make a collage they are fun for the kids and it would be a great way to say thank you.

Something with pictures and/or handprints from all the kids?

Maybe have them all put their handprints onto a large ceramic pot that she could put a plant in?

How about a painting of everyones hand-prints? And then you could label each child's hand-prints.
That is very thoughtful of all of you.
