What is required to come here or can just anyone come? Is it easier for some or the others. I dont get it I mean how long does it take to complete the process of immigration? Do the immigrants have the same rights and privileges as us natural born citizens?

My cousin is coming from Austria and I'm really excited to see her but the past month these questions have been going through my head. Help Please!

Immigration visa is sponsored through Family, Employment, Diversity Lottery, Refugee and Asylum. None of immigration processs is easy and everything takes longer time and the proces is expansive, with the exception of marriage to US Citizen.
In the case of the Marriage to US Citizen, the process takes 6-8 months for conditional green card and 2 yrs for the unconditional. Other family based could take from 3 to 22 yrs, based on your sponsor and the country of your birth.
Employment based immigration is multi step process involving Department of Labor, Department of State and USCIS. This is seriously backlogged, taking from 4 to 10 yrs based on the category of your employment and the country of your birth.
Diversity Lottery Visa is available to certain country citizens, which accept the applications once a year, by Department of State. Refugee and Asylum is extremely hard to prove, but once you are granted the status, you can file for green card after one year.

Immigrants do not have same rights and privileges as US Citizen. They cannot vote, they cannot be on jury duty. And if they commit serious crime or any harm to the US, they can get deported after serving the jail time, unlike US Citizens. They do pay tax and they are entitled to live and work permanently.

I am a recent (British) immigrant to the US. I began the immigration process, went through all the required steps and stages, proved my worth to the Country, proved that I wasn't going to be a medical or financial burden to the state, and was granted a visa. It took approximately seven months from start to finish, and a fair amount of money for all the various fees that have to be paid along the way.

I have almost as much rights as a full-citizen, but I cannot vote, and I have no access to the welfare system (which I completely agree with).
