Hinduism never "started". It just evolved for thousands of years from many different Scriptures, Deities, Sages, changing and changing, until it became what it is today. Even today, new ways of practicing and adopting beliefs are in Hinduism are slowly changing. It is an ever evolving religion that is in seek of further truth!

Karen Armstrong wrote a good book about the history of certain major religions...The Great Transformation. Hinduism is covered...really interesting read!
Hinduism was born from the Vedic Brahmanism (not sure I spelled it right), coming out of the bronze and iron ages. It started in the Indus Valley, gets more complicated as cultures, time and civilizations shifted.
I think so anyway...hope I didn't offend anyone if I am wrong!

The oldest known Hindu scripture, the Rig Veda, may be as old as 6000 BC according to some scholars. Some people believe Hinduism may even date to prehistoric times. There are many different forms of Hinduism, it seems more like a group of religions than a single religion.

They're all wrong. It started properly with the Vedic civilisation of Ancient India, and probably took its current shape by around 1500BC when work began on the sacred texts, the Vedas, making it the oldest religion in the world. It has no single founder and many different schools of thought.
