I'm writing an essay, and I need a quote about fighting unfairness with words, even though the consequences of fighting with words may be just as bad. Something along the lines of "The Pen is mightier than the Sword." But I want to use something a bit different. (But, just in case, if you know, who said the Pen quote?)

"Beneath the rule of men entirely great,
The pen is mightier than the sword."–Edward Bulwer-Lytton (1803-1873) in "Richelieu," act ii, sc. ii

"Be skillful in speech that you may be strong [...] it is the strength [...] of the tongue, and words are braver than all fighting."–unknown tutor of King Merikare (2135-2040 B.C.); [...] indicates gap in the document.

Robert Burton and Miguel de Cervantes disagreed, by the way. Cervantes lost his hand to a bullet, which influenced his opinion.

"And I honor the man who is willing to sink
Half his present repute for the freedom to think,
And when he has thought, be his cause strong or weak,
Will risk t'other half for the freedom to speak."–James Russell Lowell (1819-1891), "A Fable for Critics"

"When power leads man toward arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the areas of man's concerns, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of his existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses, for art establishes the basic human truths which must serve as the touchstone of our judgment."–John F. Kennedy, Address at Amherst College, Oct. 26, 1963.

"Silence gives consent."–Oliver Goldsmith (1728-1774), "The Good-Natured Man, act ii

"If all mankind minus one were of one opinion, and only one person were of the contrary opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person than he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind.... We can never be sure that the opinion we are endeavoring to stifle is a false opinion; and if we were sure, stifling it would be an evil still."–John Stuart Mill (1806-1873), "On Liberty"

If you need something different, how about taking precautions? Like it or not, here they are;

"What you know, might kill you"
"Doing the right thing, will cost you"

This are some famous quote in Police World... but as they were saying... "Curiousity kills a cat"... and well... be brave and freedom seeker... as "knowing the truth will set you free", in either keeping the peace or seeking the peace.

Anyway, " you are but one vote.."
