Not this atheist; I liked the movie, and I've always loved the books, even after I found out that they were a Christian parable. I don't see why Christians are so worked up about the Golden Compass; if a kid's movie can hurt their faith, it can't have been that strong to begin with.

I sincerely doubt it. I rather liked the Chronicles of Narnia as a child. To this day I just love Aslan nad have even considered getting the novels in leather bound editions, along with other classics such as Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Le Morte d'Artur, Treasure Island, 20, 000 Leagues Under the Sea, etc.
I always saw the Chronicles of Narnia to be exactly what they are... novels meant for entertainment and extremely well written.
Christians get upset at EVERYTHING. Its like they think that anything remotely fun must somehow be of the devil. Its insane.

No, in fact I have the whole set of books on the Chronicles of Narnia and have always enjoyed them for the fictional books that they are.
It's useless to get upset over silly things like that when there is so much poverty and warfare in the world around us.

No, people are upset about the Golden Compass because they have the odd notion that being outraged and offended means they must be right about something.

No. Christians remain remarkably blind to things they like and remarkable critical over things they dont like.
I'm speaking generally about the crazees. I know a few christans who like The Golden compass and cant wait for the movie. As well as the Da vinci Code.
The Crazee's forget that god has a sense of humor.

Nope. I'm an atheist and I took my son to see Narnia. I also plan on taking him to see Golden Compass. What these people whining and crying fail to see is these are just fictional stories. If people claimed they were the truth then I can see why people would get upset. But they are just fictional stories for pete sake.

Hey now, it's a kid's story. We've got to stop worrying about who every tiny detail is going to offend, because someone is always going to be offended by something. Entertainment made for the sake of entertainment and not slandering particular groups is all too often the victim of ridiculous political un-correctness. I'm agnostic, and I have no problem with it whatsoever.

However, with all the hoo-ha made by Christians over the golden compass, I am going to watch the movie :P.

Nope.
LOVED "TLTW&TW" My favorite books as a kid, and they did a fab job with the movie. There is actually a LOT of pagan imagery, from talking beasts to walking trees to water spirits. Plenty to keep me happy. Plus the theme of an innocent life being resurrected is not solely the property of Christianity -- it figures in a lot of other mythology as well.
