"A sorte protege os audazes" (The equivalent in English is "who dares wins". The exact translation is: "Luck protects the daring ones") (This sentence is written in 'Forte Francisco Xavier in Porto)
"Paus e pedras podem ferir o meu corpo, mas palavras não em atingem." ("Sticks and stones may break my bones, but hard words cannot hurt me")
"Deus quer; o Homem sonha; a obra nasce" Fernando Pessoa (Portuguese writer)
(God wants; Men dream; the work of art is born)
"A Guerra é uma cobra que usa os nosso dentes para nos morder" Mia Couto (Writer born in Mozambique)
("War is a snake that uses our own teeth to bite us")
"Tudo vale a pena quando a alma não é pequena" Fernando Pessoa
("Everything is worth it, when the soul is not small")
"Mudam-se os tempos, mudam-se as vontades" Luis Vaz de Camões (one of the most famous Portuguese writers from the XVI century)
("Times change, wills change")

If you want sayings, and other Portuguese quotes check these websites:

I also recommend Florbela Espanca, her poems are beautiful and you can rip something for your cards.

I hope this helps.

"Numa casa Portuguesa fica bem, pão e vinho sob a mesa/ e se há porta humildemente bate alguém, senta-se à mesa com a gente" - very famous fado's verses In a portuguese home, it looks good to have bread and wine on the table And if someone humildly knocks at the door, we invite them to sit at the table with us I kow this doesn't answer to your question but I don't know how to help you and these verses talk about family values and food as well.
