YES! I bought my sofa at Big Lots in 2001 & I still use it everyday. It's quite comfortable & it's held up well over the years. I am thinking of finally unloading it, but only b/c I want something that better matches my decor (and I hate slipcovers). I don't regret the purchase at all - it was worth every penny.
The majority of my furniture is from here:

They have pretty great bargains on new stuff.

You are so right about Salvation Army and their prices. Big Lots furniture is ok. You have to pick and choose because sometimes they have really good stuff that is overstocked at a furniture store and sometimes they have not so good stuff. If you can find a furniture store by the name of Ashley Furniture there where you live you can find some good furniture there. Medium priced that is not the very top of the line but it is good durable furniture. If you can find a furniture outlet store they have really good stuff most of the time at really good prices. I live in NC and you can find many of those stores here. Look it up on the internet. North Carolina furniture outlets. You can order online and they deliver as well. Virginia also has a wonderful store of that sort in Farmville VA. I bought some furniture and area rugs from there 17 years ago and I am still using this furniture. Good Luck .....I know you can find what you want at the price you want to pay!

I bought a nice recliner there for a great price due to it having a very slight flaw on the footrest. I've had it for a good five years or more and while I dont sit in it that often it has held up perfectly all that time.

i have been married for 19 years and i have bought furniture at target and walmart. if you are looking not to spend too much you can also try biglots.com just in case you didn't know.
IKEA is also good but the only thing is, you have to put it together yourself.
good luck finding something!!!

I live near Houston, one hour north...and I would advise checking out the flea markets in the Conroe area. There is an IKEA in Houston, too, requires assembly and honestly, I think it is on the same quality meter as Big Lots.
If you buy something from a flea market you can negotiate for the best price as well as putting better quality (used) pieces in your price range.
