Martin Scorcese says this film is from his beliefs and his ideas--not necessarily "factually accurate." Believers know that God tests, not tempts. Temptations come from another source :) In theory there could have been temptation, but Jesus would not have indulged in the fantasies depicted in the movie.

Horrifically inaccurate. If there ever was a portrayal of Jesus written from Satan's point of view, this appears to be it. Unhappily for the evil one, and exactly opposite the movie, the New Testament portrays a Jesus who is genuinely good, genuinely miraculous, able to overcome all temptations, whose mouth was full of blessing to God and gentleness to hurting people, reserving His harshness for the self-righteous alone. Jesus did not need to marry, because the church was and is His eternal Bride. Jesus did not need to give birth to biological children, because believers are His children in spirit. Jesus told us truth when He told us of His coming from God, as the Son of God. Oddly, the movie puts in the mouth of the central character the full range of accusations that the enemies of Jesus have made against Him over the centuries. All these accusations are demonstrably unfounded. The record is clear. Jesus came in love to save lost sinners, and He has done precisely that.

The movie had scenes depicting things that were not in the bible. One thing I remember is a scene where Jesus is carrying the cross, and the actor says, "Behold, I make all things new". But that verse is found in Revelation 21, after the resurrection had occurred.

Well, I know that the original screenings were for pastors, before it hit the movie theatre (my pastor was invited to the showing where Mel Gibson himself took Q&As after the movie). I've spoken with two pastors who watched the film and they both were comfortable with giving their blessing to those who watched the film.

Yes, there was some poetic license (like that baby-like thing that Satan carried), but overall, the movie followed scriptures.
