The Ankh or Crux Ansata is the Egyptian hieroglyh for life and for eternal life in particular. The gods are often depicted with it. During Roman persecutions Egyptian Christians used the Ankh) since it was commonly used as a protection symbol by Egyptian Kemetists and Christians would not be picked out by this sign) as a symbol of the saving death of Christ as the key of eternal life in Heaven . The Ankh is also a Tau( the mark on the elect in Ezechiel) with a loop on top(circles were a sign of the eternality of god and of the orb of the Earth over which God is ultimately sovereign and for which Jesus died and rose.

I personally don't wear an ankh, but I think that Egyptian culture is among the most fascinating in the ancient world. Their symbols and stories are so unique, that it deserves recognition. Unfortunately, some Christians believe that all of their stories are truly those of the Bible, so they end up taking the Egyptian culture and claiming it as their own. This isn't new, however, as seen in the ideas of Christmas, Easter, and so on.

I'm a Christian. I find it alternately amusing and disturbing that some Christians get completely freaked out by symbols. This includes the ankh, the pentagram, or anything else. They're just symbols. Nothing to get excited about. Looking at (or even wearing) an ankh pendant won't suddenly make a Christian burst into flames.

I am a Christian and have a small ankh tattoo on my ankle. The meaning of the symbol has its roots in Egyptian theology typically meaning "key of life" or "key to the Nile." It is used in their art as being a symbol that the gods and goddesses hold to represent life. Egyptian rulers also are depicted holding the ankh. But it basically stands for eternal life. It's often shown with the symbols of health and strength as well. It originated in ancient Egypt, but I think it can be applied to any religion or set of beliefs that believe in eternal life, health or strength. It doesn't "belong" to one particular belief system, what symbol truly does? It isn't a symbol OF pagan deities, it is a symbol set completely alone and apart from religion, even that of the Egyptians.

The ankh is most commonly seen as a symbol of life. As such, it really isn't for or against many religions.

I too am looking to get an ankh. I like James O comment, It is still a cross, just a variation, I just like the design! To me it still represents your Christian belief. God is eternal and Jesus died to give us that eternal right!! If it will be wrong to wear one, God will certainly let us know.

I love Jesus Christ and a man I am attracted to does not believe in Jesus, he is a fan of the Ankh and Egyptian Gods. The reason this conflicts with me and we will not get together is because to me, he is still in worship of the Gods that THE ONE AND ONLY GOD had already said not to praise. What is happening to society today is an increasing amount of people trying to bring back that PHARAOH ****! Remember what happened in Egypt!!!! INNOCENT CHILDREN'S LIVES WERE TAKEN FROM THEM IN THEIR SLEEP BECAUSE OF THEIR PARENT'S REFUSAL TURN OVER TO THE TRUE GOD!!! I will not let this happen to my child and I pray for those attempting to revive the pharaoh.

How can you call yourself a Christian, when you know the root and foundation from which this came from. Where in the Bible that you read, on the principles which you call your self a Christian do you see anything in their telling you to adopt a ANKH, you guys are bringin perversion into your life and your family. Go back and study why it was called the keys to eternal life and why it is called the key tot he nile. ( why the nile) . We are destroyed because of a lack of knowledge. we take things from the outside world and bringit into the church and call it conversion, when its creating Confusion and perversion
