I'm thinking to buy a LCD HDTV, I'm going pick either Samsung LN-T4061F or Samsung LN-T4071F. I know which is worth to buy? the only different is the Contrast Ratio

Samsung LN-T4061F - $1299.99 - 10,000:1 Contrast Ratio
Samsung LN-T4071F - $1799.99 - 25000:1 dynamic contrast ratio

The contrast ratio is kind of a meaningless specification, as there is no standard method that all companies use for determining contrast ratio.

Also, notice how one TV's spec is "dynamic contrast ratio" while the other is just "contrast ratio". Dynamic contrast ratio is where they measure the light coming from the screen when the image is completely black. They then measure the light coming from the screen with a full white image on it. The difference in luminosity, as a ratio, is then the dynamic contrast ratio.

Static contrast ratio (called just "contrast ratio") is where they display a 16-block checkerboard-looking image of white and black squares. They then measure the luminosity of the black compared to the white - in the same picture image. This results in contrast ratio specifications that are about 1/3 the value of the dynamic contrast ratio.

Also, consider that the human eye can resolve a contrast ratio at any given time to about 800:1. Sure, the human eye can resolve about a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio over the entire spectrum of a bright, sunny day to a very dark room. But, it takes about a half hour to accomplish this resolution. That is, after being outside on a sunny day, it would take about a half hour in a dark room for the eyes to adjust to the dark.

So, any contrast ratio over about 1500:1 is overkill. And, because you don't really know how they came up with that specification, you can assume that it's just a marketing ploy to get you to purchase the more expensive TV that works just the same as the cheaper one.

Regarding Samsung, I don't like them. I got a Sony KDL-40S2000 (40" LCD) a little over a year ago for $1800. It's now selling on Best Buy's web site for $1350. And, it's an awesome TV. My friend got a Samsung instead of a Sony a few months ago, because it was a few hundred dollars cheaper. But, I don't like the picture anywhere as much as I do the Sony.

I highly recommend selecting a different brand.

Samsungs are know for some of the highest failing units on the market with poor factory support and expensive repairs on units outside of warranty.

In my experience Samsung makes shotty units. I even do warranty work for Samscum and even I would never buy one of there units.

I would not sell this line knowing that my customers will have problematic trash and I didnt want to deal with it.

So I suggest the Sony line, you might pay alittle more for it. But believe me its worth it in the long run.

Sony has the most reliable units on the market to this day.

I have about 5-6 2006 Samsung units in for repair that are out of warranty. And they are uneconomical for repair due to Samsungs high cost in parts.

It looks like you want a 40" tv, I suggest the 40W3000 or maybe the 40xbr4 from Sony.

I hope this help.
