I ask this in R/S because Jesus said that we could only come to the father (God) as little children. Well, for years the "church" has explained that Jesus meant that we must approach God in a humble and subservient manner. (I have even preached that explanation in the pulpit.). I now think Jesus meant to approach "God" we must love everyone. - just my pondering.
Recently I just told Pangel that I loved everyone and asked her if she thought I was senile. I ended the comment by signing "Uncle Wayne age 64 growing toward age 7. Afterwards, I realized that when I was 7, I really did love everyone. I suppose for each person that age is different. So I was just wondering.
So the question is: At what age did you love everyone?

Of course, I am open to being told that I really am senile, and that I need medical help. -- chagrin

Dear Linda, I think you have a good point. Cause I have noticed that we usually lean toward forgiving those we love. (most of the time?)

As I read your answers it came to me that when we grow older, "trying" to love everyone may be tantamount. But, I mean really really trying. - just a thought

Probably when I was a little kid I truly did love everyone. Now I say I do, and try to act like it. But when you see all the crap that some people do, it gets hard sometimes to really love and not want to throttle their necks.

You make a really good point. I had a difficult upbringing so I can’t tell you when I last loved everyone as a child…I am a forgiving kind of person, I learned a long time ago to forgive and forget. I could not have survived without being able to do that. A year ago I had a conversation with a pastor (licensed minister)…he made me feel very small about a comment I made regarding how I hear the Lord talk to me… His reply literally took me to my knees. He told me I was hearing Satan talk to me… His view of my kind of love for people was “sugar coated”, that I wasn’t much of a Christian…I explained I could uphold the rules of God and still love people…he was all about hell, fire and brimstone and I’m more about the Kingdom.
The first thing I did was get my Devotional Bible and asked the Lord if I was wrong...as I usually do I pray and talk with the Lord and ask for his instructions, I opened my devotional to:
Matthew 18:3
And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Jesus said : John 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
This doesn’t dismiss us from teaching the gospels or the punishment…but I think it should be our first guide line in how we do it
As a parent I found I have unconditional love for my Children… but my children have had (at times) conditional love for me … Do we approach God with conditional or unconditional love?
God bless you,
Faith

There are people whom I will NOT love.. they are few.
That being said:
I do love most everyone else, even if I disagree with their views.. I know love is a strong and personal word, so maybe it isn't love in a personal sense, But I am the opposite of the God I've read about in the bible in that I love humanity in general, the bible-god is described in the most horrific misanthropic terms, and if it existed, I would not love it, even if it proved itlself to exist.

I don't know that everyone does, even when they are children. When I was a small child before going to school (no pre-school in my day) I was an extremely shy child who would not go to anyone I did not know well. I still kind of hold myself back until I know a person really well as it is just part of my own distinct personality.
Of course given that, I didn't hate or dislike everyone either.. I just was perhaps indifferent.

I remember my mother and I having a conversation about how I should love all of the human race. I asked how could I love people that I didn't even know. (Ever the logical one) And she said that it was more like thinking of all humans like I would someone I did actually know because everyone knows someone. So I guess it started developing at about six and I'm still working on it.

I'd have to say @ age 7. I had 2 little sisters and not a care in the world.
Right now I am working on loving everyone -- but I'm only human, and there are still people who just get on my damn nerves no matter how much I try to convince myself that I love them. ;o)

It has taken 40 years to forgive and to release the fear.Only then did the "loving everyone" start. I did not love everyone as a child.

Before Kindergarten. At age 5 I began to hate my first person, the person who puked on my special nap time blanket in the shape of a sheep.
