We don't know cause we weren't there but it would be no problem for God to put light into the world apart from any physical body like the sun.
There is no reason to doubt the word of God!

The sun, moon, and stars PRODUCED light. Light is a separate creation in and of itself. We also have fire and light bulbs for example.
