The above people are correct, BUT some people will NOT have smelly pee.

The green asparagus more popular in the USA does cause smelly pee in some people.

It's a genetic thing. It's not a life altering-endangering genetic thing, just a quirk. Some people metabolize the substances in asparagus differently than others. So some people will have asparagus scented pee and others won't.

My husband's pee never stinks after eating the tasty veg. Mine does.

It's like curling your tongue up on its sides or that chemical your biology teacher has the class taste. Some are "tasters" others are not. It's a genetic thing.

Woah. That Diabetes factor is WAY off! The odor that's worried with diabetes pertains to ketones, which while spilled by way of urine (and breath) spells like Juicy Fruit gum. Seriously. That is among the many signs of diabetes. The odor that's on your urine after consuming asparagus is from sulfur compounds that your frame are not able to digest. See the hyperlinks beneath for extra. But learn this once more: The asparagus odor is in NO WAY concerning diabetes. As for the nutrition replacing the colour, that vibrant yellow colour is the water soluable nutrients that your frame did not abosorb.

Asparagus contains a lot of minerals it takes up from the soil; one of them is sulphur. When asparagus is allowed to grow above ground, the sulphur will be reduced by the available sunlight to something less smelly, but it would make the asparagus less tasty.

Be happy. Garlic is worse.

In 1975 one Robert H. White, then with the chemistry department at the University of California at San Diego, found that the odor-causing chemical was in fact caused by several S-methyl thioesters, specifically S-methyl thioacrylate and S-methyl 3-(methylthio)thiopropionate.

(Thioesters are compounds that result from the reaction of an acid with a sulfur-containing alcohol. They tend to be smelly.)
