My Dachshund loves my 7 yr old, but he is not rough with her. My 9 month old on the other hand is starting to grab at her..she doesnt like it. Once the baby starts getting around, I am going to have to keep them seperated so he doesnt hurt her. They really arent good, little kid dogs since they do tend to have back problems.
They are very active and also very stubborn..some are very hard to house train (mine is 3 and still not 100% broke)

Dachshund is how it is spelled.
Get a book "Dachshund for Dummies", dumb name but great book, fun to read and very informative - will tell you all you could ask about dachshund, pro and con, what to expect.

Most dachshund are not good with young children - they are smallish dogs with a very definite sense of their rights and are inclined to snap at kids if they pull their ears or play roughly with them. I would wait until the kid is at least 10 before getting a dachshund.

Read the book, you will see that dachshund are not for everyone. I love the breed, but I do dachshund rescue and we get dogs turned in for snapping at kids all the time - we won't adopt them out to families with young children like yours.

Think it over, your child is too young to be reliable with the dog - and the dog will likely snap or bite if injured by accident, can't blame the dog for that.

There is NO dog or puppy "good" for a 3 year old.
Dachshunds are actually a very bad choice for children due to their back issues.
The best dogs as far as purebreds that are in that size reange would be Pugs or Bostons. They both are very kid friendly...but a 3 yr old? Why not wait a few more years?

I normally do not recommend dachshunds to first time dog owners or people with young children. They do need special care because dachshunds are prone to back problems such as slipped disks and degenerative back diseases, seizures, and mammary tumors that both males and females can get. It is recommended that you do not have stairs in your house because going down stairs especially puts pressure onto their backs and can cause problems that are costly to repair. My dachshunds are great travel dogs. This past summer, one of my dachshunds went on a drive to Florida and she slept most of the way. Dachshunds really are great dogs (that's why I have them after all!) and are extremely loyal, friendly, affectionate, intelligent, make excellent watch dogs, and are adorable dogs, however, they are not for everyone. If you feel you can give proper care to a dachshund, even with all of their health problems, then by all means get one! As for being good with children, mine are. The red one in the picture is great with my year old nephew and loves him. She puts up with his pulling of her fur and ears and protects him. I do know that some dachshunds can get nippy with younger children, but not all of them are. Dachshunds really are wonderful dogs, and if you decide to get one, you will make a life long friend and companion.

Dachshunds are usually pretty active little dogs. They were originally bred for hunting and going into burrows.

Because of their shape they are prone to intervertebral disc disease and can suffer from ruptured discs in their back. Mild disc ruptures can be treated medically with steroids and cage rest of 4-6 weeks. Many however are severe enough to cause hind limb paresis or paralysis. With either imaging (myelogram or CT) are indicated and back surgery (hemilaminectomy) are indicated. Recovery can stem a few weeks to a few months.

Keeping them from jumping, keeping them lean, and knowing the early signs (back pain, reluctancy to jump, shaking, etc) of a disc bulge or rupture can help prevent the condition.

Unfortunately, we've seen the same dog back 3 times for back surgery and it's not uncommon for them to rupture more than one disc space in their life time.

The cost for back surgery is about $3-4000 depending on your location. So if you get one - be prepared.

I have an eleven year old dachshund and she is very active. They are very loyal, loving dogs but there are some disadvantages. They tend to pee a lot, even though they have been potty-trained and also are prone to back problems. Overall, they are great dogs but require attention like most others animals.

I have always had weenie dogs really depends in the nature of the one you want. I have known my red weenie to nip at my son and my nephew so when they come around I put them up. Some vet's when tell you not to get your child a pet until they are 6 .You will also need to know there backs are very easy to hurt. I know my son is 6and a half and he still gives me shivers when he picks her up he is gentle but all it takes is one good drop.So I do not think a weenie dog is your best choice.Good luck sounds like you have your son or little girl best interest at heart plus the dog.

Duschunds are cute dogs, I've recently heard that, "Dachshunds are good with children in their own family if introduced to them early. They may not be as fond of your children's friends, so supervise playtime." So, I'm not sure how good the dog would be regarding the fact that you have a 3-year-old.

If they wanted peace they could do this - but as we all know they do not want peace with Israel at any time in the future. Hamas has the role of agitator indiscriminately targeting Israel to provoke retaliation which then become the fault of Israel. Hamas is founded on hate for Jews and their supporters in the Middle East and elsewhere support and encourage this hatred. Hamas is the violent equivalent of the people who write poisonous lies about Israel and Jews - the intention of both groups is to damage Israel using violence or false propaganda. Many of the people who do this false propaganda would deny their hatred of Jews and say it is just Israel's actions they dislike. But when Arab Muslims commit atrocities against Christians and Africans in Darfur this is ignored.
