I called my grandma Mamaw because when I was very young, I had a hard time with the "G" sound. That's an easy one!!

In my family we have grandma, granny, nanny, nana, maw maw, mamaw, mimi, and memaw. Because we had several generations of grandparents living at the same time we tried to give them all different names to make it easier for the little ones as they were learning everyone's name.

I call my mamaw that. I'm from NC and everyone here does that. I think it's a regional thing.

Our neighbor from Arkansas had her grandchildren call her that. I was in CA at the time and hadn't heard it before.
