Let her decide when and for how long she needs a break. But basically right now she will spend almost all her time with the pups, leaving them only long enough to eat and relieve herself.

During the first couple weeks, you should also stay with the pups or have someone checking on them regularly. They are at their most vulnerable right now. And do not permit anyone to wear shoes in the puppy nursery as they can inadvertently bring diseases in.

Be sure Mama is getting the best, highest quality diet you can afford. Ask your Vet about giving her a vitamin tablet. And, if you have not yet done so, take Mama and puppies into the vet for a check up and first worming for the pups.

Once the pups are all weaned, then seriously consider having her spayed. Remember you are responsible for these new puppies their entire lives. Congratulations on the pups, but please don't breed any more unless your b**ch is a proven show quality or working dog.

Mom knows what to do. It is instinctive, Just keep watch on the pups and make sure none are in distress. Avoid holding the pups at this time. Just observe them by looking and making sure all are eating and breathing. When mom gets hungry or thirsty she will get up. As for all the know it alls out there leave her alone about spaying. Have you been to the pound lately to adopt a dog? The price is $120.00 and up. I am glad she will be able to give the pups to a good homes!!

Your dog will probably know how long she can be away from her pups. I would say no longer than 15 to 20 minutes at a time a couple of times a day for the first few days as long as the puppies are in a warm place. You dont want the puppies getting chilled. It is very important that they are in a place away from drafts and off the cold floor. Puppies can not hold their own body heat for the first few weeks and depend on their mother for warmth.

Keep the whelping room as quiet as you can. I know it is hard. You want to show everyone the new puppies. But think of it as a maternity ward for dogs. One or two people at a time and no loud noises for a few days. Let the new mother and babies get comfortable.

Your dog is very tired after having her puppies but by tomorrow or the next day you should be seeing signs of her old self coming back.

It sounds like you are doing well.
Congratulations on your new babies

Since she is doing well with the pups, you really only need to let her out to use the potty. Keep fresh water and food around where she can get to it easily. Make sure she doesn't lay on any of the pups. That could lead to a disaster for the baby. Good luck!!!

She should know exactly what to do. DO NOT keep her away from the pups, other than to go outside to the potty. Just start being concerned if she herself starts pushing them away, or covering them with blankets. Then you will have to start bottle feeding. And I won't make any comments about spay, other than I am a Vet Tech at a shelter, please find good homes, I love dogs, but I see way too many every day.

First leave her alone when she wants to leave the pups she will.Any new mom is tired trust me.
For the most part she won't want to leave the pups much teh first week or two.
When the pups are 2,4,6,8 and 10 weeks they should be wormed along with mom. at 6,9 and 12 weeks old teh pups should get their booster vaccine. The pups should stay together withmom until 8 weeks old at teh youngest.
teh pups will open hteir eyes and ears at about 2 weeks old. They start getting around by 3 1/2-4 weeks they will really be gettign around. At this time they should be started with weaning. I do this by moistening puppy food( mom should be on for the extra nutrition needed for raising the pups) You can use water, puppy replacement milk or goats milk for this and make into a very soupy consitency more so they can lapit up than chew on it. start moistening teh food over night and seperate mom from pups overnight. First thing in the morning give the groul to the pups you will need to put their little noses in it to get them started. give tehm 15-20 minutes to eat tehn let the mom in to nurse and seh can have what's left over. they should be fed this 3 times during the day. take mom away at least an hour before feeding.
at 5 weeks make it a little thicker and leave water down for them,6 weeks moistened some and start leaving dry food down to nibble on. by 7-7/12 weeks they should be on solid food.
Pups and mom need ot be left together until 8 weeks to learn a lot of the social training like how to play and how hard to bite which is taught bye mom and siblings.
Tehy should not be taken outside until at least there 2nd set of shots.
DO NOT LET FRIENDS AND PEOPLE TO COME LOOK AT TEH PUPS UNTIL THEY ARE ABOUT 4 WEEKS OLD.

After the pups are about a month old then you can give the mom a break from them for about a half hour about twom times a day. If the mom resists from you taking the pups somewhere just let her take care of them for a couple more weeks and try again.
