It depends on your stance, but I believe its worth getting
All of the PS3's other than the 40 GB version are able to play PS2 games, and the PS3 also has a bunch of new exclusive games coming out...
Games such as:
Unreal Tournament III
Fatal Inertia
Soul Calibur 4
Dynasty Warriors 6
Killzone 2
Army of Two
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2
Brothers In Arms: Hells Highway
Haze

Those are just some of the really cool looking upcoming games for the PS3, and in my opinion, the games make the console, so I would say its definitely worth getting.

Yes the PS3 is worth getting. If you want to play these games, you'll have to have a PS3:

Killzone 2
Grand Theft Auto 4
Gran Turismo 5
Final Fantasy XIII
Metal Gear Solid 4
Metal Gear Online
Motorstorm 2
Tekken 6
Heavy Rain
Infamous
Socom Confrontation , and more.

And those are just some of the PS3 exclusives coming in 2008. If those games don't convince you to get a PS3, I don't know what will. Also God of War 3 is coming sometime in the future as well, but it will probably be out sometime in 2009.

That depends...

What games are you interested in playing on both the PS2 and PS3? What kinds of games are you interested in playing in general? Have you looked at the 360 or Wii?

For me, it breaks down like this:

I still have my PS2 from 2002. There are still a stack of games I want to play on it, so I'm in no hurry to upgrade to a PS3. I don't really care that PS3s can play PS2 games with better graphics, it's just not worth spending the money. I've looked at the Wii and 360. I think I'll buy a 360 sometime next year (birthday perhaps?) and maybe a Wii sometime after that. As for the PS3...it just doesn't have the games I'm looking for. I'm mainly into RPGs, and as odd as it sounds, the PS3 is mainly going after that FPS market this time - which is just....STRANGE.

PS3 is the ultimate of all the next gen consoles! Not only do you get a gaming system but you get a HD movie player that plays Blue-Ray, and upscales your regular DVDs to HD. Eventually you will be able to do even more with your PS3! Movie rentals from the PS network, Home where you will be able to video chat and communicate with family and friends! Tons of great stuff all you have to do is check out their website!

A PS3 would be worth getting. I think a PS3 can play PS2 games and also the PS3 is coming out with cooler games now. Also, it's cheaper than Blue-Ray (Also PS3 is a blue ray dvd player). SO if you want kewl entertainment get the PS# and also the PS2 is getting old and soon companies will stop making PS2 games.

Yes. Besides the PS3 (except for the 40 gb version) can play PS2 games. All the new games are coming to the PS3. The PS2 had a wonderful life, but it's getting up there in ages, and soon it will be put to pasture.

It's definitely worth it but if you're unsure you could leave it for a bit and just take advantage of the cheap prices you can get PS2 games for.
