I want to file an ammended return for 2005. In 2005 the preparer had my status married filing separate. In 2006 I filed taxes myself as Head of Household. I was audited for 2006 earlier this year and the IRS approved my Head of Houshold status. My situation in 2005 was exactly the same as it is now and in 2006 so I want to file the ammended return. I have the 1040x form and I'm wondering what all needs to be filled out. It looks likes like the only section that is required for me to fill out is the filing status and section 2 a written explanation.Does anyone know what all I need to fill out on the form? It's a bit confusing. Thanks

Separate to head of household is fine. Get Form 1040X and make the changes. You might include in your narrative that your subsequent year return was audited and H of H held up. Don't forget to claim all the credits you were denied under married filing separate status.
