Since bush has been in office our pay raises have been higher than the average for the civillian sector, bringing us somewhat closer to closing the gap(although I still think we're underpaid!). We get free healthcare, college money housing, etc. I may not love the military, but I don't regret my decision to join one bit.
On the iraq note, I may not agree with everything Bush says on Iraq, but as long as we're fighting the bad guys(and make no mistake, we ARE fighting the bad guys there) I don't mind getting deployed. Of all the combat vets I know(even the ones who are tired of deploying because they've seen war 3, 4, or even 5 times) most are more afraid of who will come into office next. The idiot you know is better than the idiot you don't.(not saying I think bush is an idiot of course, I'll leave my opinion of Mr. Bush out of this)

I DISAGREE!!!!! The United States Armed Forces DO NOT allow "kids" in to the US Military!
The U S Military IS ALL volunteer and President George W. BUSH does not force American MEN AND WOMEN to join the military unless they so desire!!

Allison, your answer is amazing, haha.
Anyways, The COS has very little to do with people enlisting. I'm a senior in high school and i proudly and gladly enlisted into the USAF over last summer. There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with young people joining Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, or any of the reserves/national guards. More power to them! Why don't you do the same, any valid reason?!

Bush's Presidency has been wonderful for the military, after 8 years of undercutting.
If you're saying this because they'll get deployed to war, then I have to ask, do you know what a military is for?

Kids cannot enlist or seek a commission, only adults can.
I actually think we should have compulsory service. A mandatory 2 year minimum upon 18 years of age.

Lets see.....
During Truman (D).....we lost 36.5 thousand Americans... and we did it for a Korean civil war
During JFK(D)....Johnson(D)....and Nixon(R) .....we fought in another civil war in Vietnam.....we lost 58.2 thousands lives there
During Clinton (D)..... we got involved in three major conflicts NONE of which involved in American security....we lost more lives in someone elses civil war
NOW.....for the first time in over 60 years we are in a war for the safety of America.....to protect American citizens and property around the world......and suddenly we should not serve
Do you realize if this war fails......not only will we AGAIN become prime targets for terrorism around the world..... The bad guys will be on Israel's doorstep.....and we could be sucked back into a new age Armageddon.....costing us potentially hundreds of thousands of American lives.....and even more money......
I do not like Bush......but about the only thing he has got right IS THE WAR
By the way.....did you notice ALL the wars for the past 60......costing America over ONE HALF MILLION lives......were not about national security.....and started by DEMOCRATS..... the one war for America's safety ......the only legal one.....was started by a Republican
BY THE WAY...... During the first 5 years of the Clinton administration..... a total of 6,742 troopers died serving their country (all causes)......During the first 5 years of the Bush administration.....6,223 troops dies (all causes)
SORRY.....looks like Clinton was a bigger killer by 519 deaths.... than Bush....
Where were you screaming your stuff when Clinton was getting our troops killed FASTER than Bush has???
Just asking

My son joined the National Guard in 2003, and is now finishing Army ROTC in college, with expected graduation in May 2008. The military completely paid for his college, and he has been living on his own with a roommate for the past year or so. It has been a wonderful experience for him so far in helping him mature and gain leadership skills as well as a free education.
While I am afraid for him to get deployed as any mom would be, I am extremely proud of him for his service, and I would never tell someone it was a bad idea to serve their country, no matter who the Commander-in-Chief is or how I might personally disagree with his politics. My husband is in the miliatary as well, and has served under several Presidents he didn't vote for. That's the beauty of living in a democracy actually--the military exists to protect our rights to disagree!
