Lets see how the media sensationalizes this one

The guy had a pre-existing injury. The death was inevitable and they only found the blood clot in his brain because he got KO'd and had to be strechered out and had a seizure. They took him for an MRI and discovered the clot. The issue isn't that he died in the cage as a direct result of that MMA fight. The guys record is 1 win 2 losses. So he hasn't been fighting too long. And unfortunatly alot of smaller organizations do not require medical clearence to fight as they're not sanctioned or the atheletic comission in that state doesn't require it. UFC has a rule all fighters must pass a physical which includes an MRI.
I fight in Judo and have never had to pass a physical. But I am sure the Olympic comittee requires fighters to provide medical clearence.
Bottom line the guy had a blood clot in his brain long before the fight and either had no idea or he did and just didn't tell anyone. Eitherway the guy was probably going to die sooner or later without medical treatment. The blow to the head just sped the process. He died a month later after he had surgery and treatment for the clot. So this guy was dead sooner or later with or without the fight.

Will the media have a field day with this... I don't doubt someone will. But the reality is they would have to argue that the organizations don't do medical checks on the fighters and let them fight and get hurt. When in reality it is the complete oposite. All but a few small probably ilegal or unsanctioned shows don't require medical checks.

As someone has already mentioned it is the second recorded death; the first one being an American that was fighting in Ukraine several years ago in a non UFC event. There have even been one or two deaths in sport karate tournaments and in a lot of these cases it is a combination of several high risk factors in conjunction with the blows to the head area that a person receives. This is one of the reasons why states are getting tougher about a doctor checking fighters before they fight, not an EMT or nurse; why fighters are having to get an actual physical before they are licensed to fight, and the fines for promoters and fighters that don't in those states has been increased substantially.

I am sure that all of us feel for his family's loss and our condolences go out to his wife and family...

PROVEN FACT

BOXING and FOOTBALL are more deadly then mma.

MMA has been around for 20 years, and first death.

Boxing has at least one death a year, football is one every 5 years basiclly.

So the media can suck it.

Its a sin though. I feel really bad for him, but hes in a better place at least.

It is actually the 2nd death..the first death at a sanctioned event. Doubt you will ever hear much on it as it did not happen in the UFC

It sounds like he might have had a pre-existing medical condition... it's not conclusive that he died as a result of the fight. I agree that the media will be all over this! I'm thinking of his family and friends (and his opponent!), regardless of what caused his death...
