Believe it or not, the majority of the welfare dollars are going to working poor or to severely disabled children, not to women popping out babies. Most of those working poor have only 1 or 2 children. Lots of support dollars also go to disabled adults, my brother being one of them. Virtually all children born with Downs Syndrome end up on Welfare as adults. What else are you going to do?

In some cases, the folks can't afford to get married. For example, the state paid for an infant to get a heart transplant (I know the grandmother). Since then, the child has needed $1000 a month in anti-rejection drugs. He is now 8 or 9. Think about how much all of that was! Those formerly 20 year old parents are still together, but can't marry because they can't afford his anti-rejection drugs. Thus, medicaid and welfare cover it.

I would like to point out that I am VERY offended by what you have said - If you take a sociology class you may learn that the majority of Welfare recipients are white in the USA and on a personal matter:

My mother was a single Mexican woman working her *** off to support her 4 kids (after our father ditched us and their marriage) She has raised us all to adults now and neither of us are leaching off of the government or tax dollars- including two of us currently working our way throught community college (by actually having jobs and working)

However I have known several people (unfortunately white or Caucasian people) who were leaches on the government- including a mother who was strung out on drugs so much so that she had to dump all of them on the state - the eldest however had always held his own and actually was raising the kids for a period of time

my whole point is that it is very wrong to label or pin the situation on any one race- there are alot of people out there neglecting and using the system- not just mexicans and blacks!!!!!

I am considered "working poor" and I am un-married and having a baby. I am not on welfare or any kind of assistance.

I am rather offended that you think that all the unmarried working poor are living off the system.

Hi Judy F

I'm glad that you think that. I am offended.

I am un unmarried mother. It doesn't matter the color of my skin... or if i am Mexican.. Asian.. or another race.

The US is in debt because of how they control their money... the debt isn't JUST BECAUSE OF welfare, food stamps.. public assistance. When you do your research, and give facts,... then lets' talk... OK?

Just because of your comment.. I'll have 10 more kids.. and make sure when i am on welfare, my checks come from yours and your family's taxes!

yes ignorance is bliss - you imply black birth rate is rising. It is actually in decline. Same with all teenage pregnancy and birth out of wedlock...
