Honestly, I think the ones who complain about us being here are weak in their faith.

No, I personally lived in a country where atheism was the state religion.
Those times we all learned a lot from atheists. I just hope those times will never come again not over my country, nor over those of my enemies.
And I don't think Christians want you off the R&S, we do like to respond all who question what we believe. Eventually some will try to point that your presence on a religious section proves your spiritual essence.
Hope I helped.

Some people are not used to having their views challenged and when it happens it bothers them to the point where they get highly uncomfortable with it. In doing so, they lash out rather than letting others have their say. I also think with a small amount of theists, that hearing an opposing viewpoint rocks their faith a bit.

i am a believer in the one true God., the God of Abraham. and i agree with GAAWDZILLA in this regard. no true believer will begrudge the atheist their right to be here on R&S. However it is atheist sense of humour that many theist find intolerable and like me dislike being exposed to such disgusting disrespect directed at my God. This kind of humour is deliberately used to offend and does nothing in spreading goodwill.
People are people and there are butt'oles who are atheist and butt'oles who are believers yet both when they disrespect their fellow man they disrespect God because He created people and it is He who said "love one another as i have loved you" now thats a Dude i can respect.

"Are they afraid they might learn something from another viewpoint?"
Here - have a cigar - you nailed it.
FEAR is the theists' main management tool and or cattle prod.

>Are they afraid they might learn something from another viewpoint?
Well, so far it doesn't look like they have anything to fear on THAT score.

Think about how the townspeople in "The Emperor's New Clothes" felt after the child pointed out the obvious.

Some of the theists on this site don't understand that the whole purpose of R & S is to get unbelievers saved. How would we do that if they didn't come here?

They don't, really. In fact, I think everyone's pretty happy with the mix we have here. It's just a way to hassle those who believe differently, that's all.
