Just take a look at the answers you've been given in response to this same, tired old question so many times already under so many of your other "names" - now so many (over 16 now!) that I won't bother to name them=+=

Yes. However there are always other factors.Speaking from personal experience(I have an IQ of 183) most gifted people know the dangers of drugs and will only turn to them as a last resort. I have a number of gifted friends and we have often discussed this topic.

I am not extraordinarily gifted, but do have an IQ of 136 which makes me gifted, but not a genuis.
I have an intreverted personality and find it difficult to communicate with people. I sometimes even feel uncomforable with my good friends. This leads to a sort of loneliness.
I do also use various forms of "self medication" but can't say for sure if it is related.

The problem isn't with the gifted people it usually with the jealous and spiteful people around them. I have seen it so many times. Their gifting aften alienates them from people who fabricate things about them in order to dis-credit them......it really is pitiful to see how low some people will stoop because they are jealous and want to hurt the gifted person in anyway they can.
Often the jealous person will be a person who is influencial and pursuades others over to their point of view and this is how it all will start.

I dont like the lack of control associated with drink or drugs...
I'm not sure drugs is the major escape route.
But yes, people with exceptional abilities in one field often show a lack of general well-rounded abilities across the board, including social skills.
And standing out from the herd has never been a good way to get accepted by the herd.
(calling it the herd doesn't help, for example)
Colin Wilson's book "The Outsider" is most revealing.
"Mankind are a herd of knaves and fools. It is necessary to join the crowd, or get out of their way, in order not to be trampled to death by them. " William Hazlitt.,

Maybe so. Self medicating includes more than drugs. It also includes poor choices made due to lonliness.
