I do not think it is limited to girls.
Your question made me think, and therefore answer, because is there a difference?
Surely someone who is " hurting inside" is problemed?
The harder one to deal with is the person who is problemed, might not necessarily be hurting.
I think that Girls (and Men) think this because that is what society tells us.
I don't think that without a Degree in Psychiatry or Psychology anyone can tell if you are hurting or otherwise.

I'm a girl and with me i can really tell if some one is hurting in side , its maybe because my friends have all had a point in there life when they are hurting, but not all girls can it all depends on how u react with things in person

I don't know about every girl, but i can, i know when my boyfriend is thinking of something depressing, or if a child has got home problems or a teacher has had a rough night, I think it's a gift, hopefully, i love helping people!...Why, girl troubles...don't worry, just tell her..she already knows..

That depends how well she knows you and what your behaviour is..
I could tell that my husband had built a huge defense wall from emotion because he had been hurt terribly in the past.
simply by his behaviour and what other people told me he was like as a person.
I knew it wasn't the real him who I was seeing, it took a long time and patience to break that wall down, but worth it.

We are more sensitive in my opinion. So if you say nothing and your face says something else, chances are we can tell.
