I think that we are just aware of the fact that God can deal with our problems a heck of a lot better than we can. The reason we don't have is because we don't ask. That is how my pastors say it sometimes.
Yes, we could deal with stuff on our own, but in asking God, it can turn out much easier. If you are diagnosed with cancer, you could deal with it, go get treatment, go to counceling, etc.. but if a Christian gets people to pray for them, they may see a complete healing and never have to go thru all that other stuff.
I'm not saying that every time we pray we get a miracle, but a lot of the time we do. There is a picture in the bible, I think in Revelation of a bowl that is being filled up with prayers and when it gets full, it spills over and the miracle is sent out. When we pray as a group, (in alignment with how the Holy Spirit is leading) we see some crazy cool things happen. There is visible power present in a corporate prayer, when the body of believers is moving together toward a common goal.

people who request prayer might be the type that can't deal with problems but there is another side of the coin to consider here
people ask others to pray for them for the LORD says where 2 agree on something then it will be done.
the other aspect of the prayer is not that men are weak, rather that men are not weak, and the flesh that causes them to be strong is not weak either.
God opposes the proud. show me a christian who is not proud and I will be astonished, for it is precious few that are not full of pride.
as a christian, i have spent the better part of my life isolated from other christians through either deployments and being at locations where I can meet christians but we were constantly on the go so we did not have a lot of time to spend together or working the jobs I worked where i might be the only christian there. so i just have never asked for prayer from others.
i trust and know that God will get me out of scrapes i find myself in because I keep my eyes on Jesus. and i will not deny my Lord or Savior no matter what.
it comes at a price sometimes, but worth anything in this life.
there is what is called communion, that i have through the Spirit of God and there is what is called fellowship, that is spending time with God. fellowship can be broken, communion can not. my fellowship is solid and therefore my needs i take to God boldly and never think to ask anyone to pray for me, as i keep going to the throne and make my needs known.
it takes all kinds to make the body of christ and i am only one there in, others may not have my faith to face the horrors of life and not turn away for strength.
as friends, we exchange answers to questions and this is good. in spiritual life, we are much alike and yet different. i see people asking for prayer as them asking for help not unlike I do as a soldier you see it as possibly being weak. in that, you are SO correct. more on point than you may understand, but the conclusion that the god like entity creates a negative impact is slightly off, the god like entity in a persons life reveals the need to be strong, thus they ask for prayer
this may be one of the best questions I have seen on r/s since i'm new i can't speak for them all, but this one is great.
i want to toss a star on it, and leave it open for a while. i hope others will weigh in and be gracious toward you.

Oh stable grief.... a million) we don't blame God, we are making a factor that the God you worship could be a monster if he have been genuine, yet, he's not. 2) Atheists blame no longer something on God. The dictionary is your buddy. 3)i do no longer worship technology. are you able to no longer understand the belief of respecting without worshiping? technology has an awesome track checklist and it would not declare to have each and all the solutions. technology is likewise self-correcting. Scientists % to discover the flaws in previous paintings or discovers. 4) i would not desire a baby with significant start defects, using fact existence could be very cruel to a baby without face. what's the factor of bringing a being into the international who will go through so quite mentally or bodily. This what we call compassion. I won't deliver the baby into the international to spare myself from hell. i'm going to abort the baby out of compassion. 5) It relies upon on the severity and no remember if or no longer they are correctable. have you ever considered Harlequin little ones? specific i could abort a baby like that. I won't have it so your God approves. i could abort it using fact this is the compassionate ingredient to do. 6) recover from IT. no one, no longer one atheist blames or credit "God" for something. Why do you no longer get this?

I sometimes wonder also, I don't ask so many people to pray for me, but I pray for myself alot, well, on my own behalf.
You get the picture.
I spend alot of time in random bits of prayer, "lord help me" is one I often use, just that haha.
But while I don't think God is more likely to help someone because more people are praying, the more people praying about something, the more likely one will become inspired and think of a solution.
Or if it's something like illness, sometimes it helps just to know people are thinking of you or whoever and doing all they can, since they can't really do much.

No dear. When people are under the burden of suffering, they must find a way out of this condition. They are reaching out and this is a sign of strength, not weakness. It is hard for people to ask for help or be honest about what they feel or think. You too will learn this lesson and one day reach out. Some reach out for prayers, some lend a helping hand. There is a divine purpose for things, and sometimes human thought is very blind, not just blind. This goes for all human thought and attacks no person individually.

There is nothing wrong with asking God for help. The fact that a Christian prays and asks God for help does not mean that they are necessarily stumbling thru life in a dysfunctional way. The fact is, we are designed to go thru life dependent on God. Those who trust Him fully and obey Him with a whole heart, in the end, find that they have lived very worthwhile lives.
p.s.
Interesting question from someone who calls herself slaveof12gods.

I have to agree with you--I've never seen pagans, buddhists, atheists, etc. post their problems and ask for prayers. These Christians and Muslims think they're doing the right thing by their religion, though.

It isn't that we atheists don't ever feel needy, it is that we don't hold false hope that other people's well wishing will actually help the situation at all.
Like if there is a god if you were to ask and get 30 people to pray as if it would actually make a difference then say one or two (or none)

I do think asking a stranger to pray for your family is weird. But really. Even if you were an atheist, what would you do differently? If someone is on their death bed what is there to do? You act as if atheists would go and discover some cure to save their family member before they die while Christians just sit there and pray. Would you really? No. The only thing you would do differently is not pray. That's it.

I, personally, also think that a certain part of the patriarchic belief structures require a person to almost have an oedepal (sic) mind set. While those who live by non-christian, etc., belief structures essentially grab the proverbial bull by the horns and ride that sucker. Truly far more mature.
