You have to be careful that it doesn't look like you're kissing up.

Something lighthearted might be the way to go - if he's always losing his keys, get him a key ring that beeps when you clap or something. There is a funny GIANT calculator at Target right now - kinda like this http://www.greatbigstuff.com/calculator.html

Brookstone is a good place to shop for nice, unusual gifts. How much do you want to spend? Maybe a digital picture frame if he has kids - and get his wife to email you some pictures so you can have it preloaded.

just be careful to present it at a good time - not when everyone else is looking - or just leave it on his desk before he gets in....

Two possible answers:
1. It is crass to present gifts to your superiors at work. It will look as though you are trying to suck up to him. A card only!

2. Decide what you can afford to spend and then get the VERY BEST example of that which you can find. Don't get a cheap version of anything. Get only the best for the boss that you appreciate.
You know him...and you can decide which answer to choose.

That's hard to say, since I don't know anything about your boss, his interests, etc...If you want something general, a gift card is always good, somewhere you know he likes.

Well I would say a nice watch would be good. Or A gift card to his Favorite Place.
