I heard that it was a Pagan Festival for 1000s of years before Jesus.

Romans called it Saturnalia which sounds Satanic..

They had Wild parties and Sexual Orgies on this day to celebrate the Winter Solstice...

Apparently the Clever Popes of the Christians chose this day to be the Birthday of Christ as it was already so Popular..

Is this true? Was Jesus involved? are Orgies OK at Christmas then? I'm so confused..

wikipedia.org dude

Theres nothing scriptully that says it is sin, if there is email me.

"There is a theory that Christians in the fourth century assigned December 25 (the Winter Solstice on the Julian calendar) as Christ's birthday (and thus Christmas) because pagans already observed this day as a holiday. This theory is much disputed, as the dates of Saturnalia are not coincident with Christmas. A more refined argument is that Christmas was set on the feast of Sol Invictus, which was on December 25, and which had supplanted Saturnalia. However, others claim that early Christians independently came up with the date of December 25 based on a Jewish tradition of the "integral age" of the Jewish prophets (the idea that the prophets of Israel died on the same dates as their birth or conception), and a miscalculation of the date of Jesus' death. [1] A theory has been advanced that the establishment of the feast of Sol Invictus on December 25 was an attempt by Aurelian to co-opt the day already celebrated by Christians for a pagan festival.[2]"

The Christian church does not endorse orgies. The previous celebrations incorporated light coming into the world in the midst of the darkness and death of winter. The Church ususurped that grand concept of Jesus coming to bring Light in the darkiness of the world and in our lives. A comforting concept! The history of religions is a fascinating study and it need not make one cynical or concerned that Christmas is a mortal sin. I, as a Christian, wish you Merry Christmas, A Good Solstice, if that is your preference, or, even Nothing since you are a Nihilist. No, that is not true, I wish for you Joy.

I want to address an answer before I get to your question. Someone mentioned Jeremiah 10th chapter, it is not talking about Christmas trees in celebration, but as for worshipping them as gods. So let's give factual information.

It is not a mortal sin to celebrate Christmas. Blasphemy is the only unforgiveable sin. I do not believe anyone who celebrates Christmas does it for any reason other than they sincerely believe it is the correct thing to do. They are, however, incorrect. However, ignorance is forgiveable.

The bible teaches that knowledge shall increase, so hopefully soon the knowledge that to celebrate Christmas is not biblical will soon be widespread.

Christmas has some roots in paganism. It is not totally pagan.

Christmas is a celebration of Christ's birth.

There are no wild parties and sexual orgies.

Was Jesus involved? HE WAS BORN. He is called CHRIST,
That is where the name CHRISTmas comes from.

There is nothing Satanic about Christ's birth.

Somehow I doubt that you're genuinely confused. Your name, "nihilist," means someone who totally rejects not only religions, but morals as well. Nihilism is also a form of skepticism that denies all existence.

First of all - The Biblical texts that were written hundreds of years before the Messiah (the Dead Sea Scrolls prove this) tell us about the Messiah.... The Bible tells us that the Messiah would be… • Born in Bethlehem The Jewish prophet said so in Micah 5:2 • Born a descendant of David The Jewish prophet said so in 2 Samuel 7:12-13 • Live a sinless life The Jewish prophet said so in Isaiah 53:9 • Do miracles like Moses The Jewish prophet said so in Deuteronomy 18:18 • Enter Jerusalem on a donkey The Jewish prophet said so in Zechariah 9:9 • Arrive after King David died The Jewish prophet said so in 2 Samuel 7:12-13 • A rejected man The Jewish prophet said so in Isaiah 53:3 • Die as a substitute for others The Jewish prophet said so in Isaiah 53:5 • Rise from the dead The Jewish prophet said so in Isaiah 53:10 • Come before 70 A.D. The Jewish prophet said so in Daniel 9:26 • Have an impact on all nations The Jewish prophet said so in Isaiah 49:6 2) The Messiah described in Isaiah 53 suffers, dies, and rises again to atone for his people's sins. The Hebrew word used in Isaiah 53:10 for "sin-offering" is "asham," which is a technical term meaning "sin-offering." 3) The kosher laws were never made for the gentiles. 4) Jesus KEPT the Sabbath His entire life. 5) Jesus is a TRANSLATION of the Hebrew name Yeshua. God even used translations when He used men of God to write the scriptures. And last of all - what is your heart like? Why would I want what you have inside?

Jesus Christ was actually born during the nice weather months...not in the thick of winter.
The proof is in the Bible. It says shepherds were in the fields with their flocks at the time of Jesus Christ's birth....and that happens in the nice weather, not the middle of winter.
The Roman church chose Dec. 25 to be Christmas Day...that had already been the traditional Roman festival of the sun, as you mentioned. It was very easy for the pagans to adapt.
This is one of the reasons I always celebrate Christmas informally in July. For all we know, Jesus Christ could have been born in July.

Mortal sin is a silly phrase since all sin is mortal. Yes, Christmas should probably be celebrated some other time of the year, but it is okay to celebrate whenever. Just don't do anything too sinful.

For sure, they should not be putting up trees and decorating them.

Jeremiah Chapter 10:
10:1 Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:
10:2 Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
10:3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
10:4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.

Saturnalia is named after Saturn, not Satan. Lots of religions and practices are based on the solstices and equinoxes.

Yes, probably chosen on a pagan holiday to help get people to turn away from their old religions.

It is illogical to suppose your next "reasoning" so I won't answer.

YEAH, what a horrible sin it is to celebrate the birth of our Lord- and to celebrate the coming of the one that gave His life, so that we could be saved, and have life abundantly- how horrible to be able to share with others about the one that came to earth for the sole purpose of giving His life for us. How about focusing on CHRIST this Christmas instead of what the day used to signify. He died for that too.
