In my opinion yes. It makes a person only care about the money instead of the job itself. Technically, people only care about the salary, but sometimes we have to pretend we actually like our jobs.

yes it's rude and innapropriate. You may not even be getting a Xmas bonus. Most people don't even get such a thing.

Most companies have a policy about not discussing compensation so keep letting the new person shoot themselves in the foot.

I think it’s always in bad taste to discuss money.

I'm not so sure I'd consider it rude, but probably pointless, as one's peers are not capable of awarding a bonus...
