"why christmas has become all about presents and gifts and less about the true meannig, celebrating the birth of our lord and savior Jesus. I know that he was not actually born on December 25th...."
Then you know Christmas' true meaning was never about the birth of Jesus...it was an adopted pagan holiday to win converts.
If you want to think about why christmas has become all about presents...I could contemplate (from the perspective of a pagan) why Christmas has become all about Jesus and less about the true meaning of the day.
Same reason...it was hijacked by something else.
Christians hijacked the holiday from pagans...and now commercialism/capitalism has hijacked the day from the Christians.

You are wrong.
The true meaning of Christmas is having a good feast and celebrating that the days are starting to get longer.
Jesus, if he existed, was definitely not born in December.
I believe the closest Roman census was held in November. Or shepherds would be out with their flocks during lambing time in the spring. Pick whichever myth suits you better, it is a shame really that the authors of the bible could not be a bit more consistent in their stories.
The church in the middle ages slapped 'Christmas' over the pagan midwinter festival, with the food and the gifts and the tree and the mistletoe, etc. to subvert it to a Christian celebration.
Interestingly the Puritans banned Christmas when they came to power in Britain because they knew of the pagan roots for it. The following government was very popular when it restored Christmas, so that the people could go back to having their celebration.

Christmas was not about Jesus, the early Gentile converts brought their own traditions and used them in their New "religion" Galatians 4: 8-11 Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods. But now that you know God—or rather are known by God—how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable principles? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again? You are observing special days and months and seasons and years! I fear for you, that somehow I have wasted my efforts on you. ... this is why there are a few denominations that do not celebrate Christmas etc...I understand that no matter what I do if I do it to the Glory of God there is nothing wrong with it...for instance will God send me to hell for observing Christmas? NO! Is it wrong to give gifts? NO! so I do these things to bring God glory. I do not let its secular origin bother me, I keep it in my heart as a special day to celebrate the birth of our Lord. Peace

Because this is exactly what Satan wants. Christmas comes from Pagan origins. Do origins matter? Yes, they do. Ex: If you found a piece of candy in the gutter, would you still eat it? Celebrating the BIRTH of Jesus isn't scriptural.
Jesus commands us to memorialize his death. (Luke 22:19)Nowhere in the scriptures does it command us to celebrate his birth. Certainly the apostles would have mentioned it if this were so. Ecc.7:1 "A name is better than good oil, and the day of death than the day of one’s being born".
You can check any encyclopedia about the origins of Christmas.

The world is full of wicked, evil people who want to give gifts to their children and loved ones. This obsession with pleasing people one loves has got to stop and be replaced by a sort of Cromwellian, curmudgeonly commitment to the true meaning of Christmas, unhappiness.

Because this is America and we tend to make everything about consumerism. It's a general trend in society with all holidays. Think of everything you are supposed to buy for many other holidays.

Because it's hard to put faith into something that didn't really happen on that day. What else would we do with a day off in the middle of winter?
