Why don't individual packs of coffee creamer need to be refrigerated, when if you buy the same coffee creamer in a bottle, it needs to be refrigerated?

I'm afraid all of our top contributors are slightly wrong. The reason those little packs of liquid coffee creamer don't need to be refrigerated is because they are ultrapasturized. It usually says so right on the package. Ultrapasturized means that it is nearly sterile like canned goods or UHT milk (tetrapac) and doesn't need refrigeration unless opened.

dairy that is packaged in a certain way doesn't have to be refrigerated. in fact, at places like costco, they sell half gallons of milk in, certain packaging, that aren't refrigerated. they only need to be refrigerated once they are opened. Hershey also had a chocolate milk drink that was packaged like a juice box, these did not have to be refrigerated. I'm not sure if they still sell those though.

If it is non-dairy, you don't need to refrigerate unless it says so. If it has the "Real" logo on it, it is a dairy product and should be in a bowl of ice or refrigerated.

because they are individually packed and non dairy... if you were to open one, you would then have to refridgerate it.... the bottles really only have to be refridgerated when opened..... we serve the individual flavored creamers at my work and when we run out, we have to go to the food store and buy the big bottles which we keep on the shelf intil we open them... thats what the main food delivery company told us to do.

If you are speaking of the liquid kind, they are vacuum sealed. No need for the fridge unless you open them.
