"Evangelical" refers to the Greek word "evangellos", which literally means "good message" or "good news". The idea is that true Christians should be proclaiming the "Good News" about Christ to the rest of the world (as it says at the end of the gospel of Matthew). So they get a reputation for pushing their religion on people who have already heard all they want about it.

One might debate whether they are proclaiming the correct "good news". Jesus quoted a passage from Isaiah about bringing "sight to the blind", "freedom to prisoners" and "encouragement to the poor", whereas the Christian message seems to be, "Repent or be damned," but it may be a matter of interpretation.

Other Christians are more likely to be working on quietly building up their communities and trying to live out that other message of the gospel. They are usually referred to as "mainline" Protestant and Catholic. Some do "missionary" activity but usually in areas that aren't already predominantly Christian.

I'd hope that all Christians are evangelical. It means that they spread the "Good News" as we are called to do. I don't know why people feel the need to discern this from other "types" of Christians.

Evangelical Christians claim to have a higher reliance on the bible than other Christians.

They tend to be literalists, and include a large group who claim nondenominational belief.

An evangelical xtian is someone who fails to use their brain to think, but believes that everyone else should believe the same way they do.
When in truth:

The bible is hateful;
God is imaginary;
The original meaning of most 'religious' myths has been lost and taken for truth.

There are neo-con "Christians" (they're usually the most vocal but, oddly, the least Christian) and then there are progressive Christians (who are usually the ones who practice what they preach).

To be evanelistic is to witness, we are all called to be witnesses when we are Christians.
