I'm in good shape, I've been weightlifting and playing football since Sophomore year at high school. I took a course last year, I'm a Senior now, that gave me 12 credits towards a degree in Criminal Justice. I've had around a 3.2 all through high school, and my dad's a Sergeant with IPD. How hard would it be for me to get a job as a cop right out of high school?

In Connecticut, not at all.
You just need to be 21. A high school degreed applicant will make in the mid 30s in police academy, and mid 40s after graduation. Training is expensive for a boring and monotonous job, so they take extra precautions that came to light in the late 1990s and do not hire applicants who are too intelligent, because they'll quit.

So the "smarts" bluff is nothing but an ego boost, and a lie among cops answering here. They're justng for big guys who can handle what make intelligent ones too bored...

Pretty hard. You don't really know the first thing about law enforcement.

You'll need to know arrest procedures, evidence handling techniques, investigation procedures, legal requirements, interrogation tactics, handcuffing procedures, how to handle a weapon safely, self defense, negotiation tricks, record keeping, report codes, rescue techniques, first aid, and how to spit shine your shoes so that a Marine drill instructor will be proud. And that's only the things that a layman can think of off the top of his head.

If you want a job as a cop - go to college for criminal justice degree. If you can't wait to graduate, you could try to get a job as a rent-a-cop at the mall. But even they probably want some sort of experience and training.

You have to look at the department's hiring age, which is usually 21. Get yourself in a junior college, receive a degree in criminal justice. That will look good in your application and by then you should be 21. The criminal justice course and degree can better prepare you for life as a police officer.

Good luck to you !
