This bit of text was provided earlier:

Romans 1: 26For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.

Is it just me or does the term "Natural use of a woman," convey a very misogynistic sentiment?

Smelly Feet, I understand what you're saying about Paul's point of view. In 1 Corinthians, he praised women for the work they were doing in Church, as preachers and even apostles. Just as the words attributed to him in 1 Timothy, this is difficult to reconcile.

The air of misogyny was one of the reasons I walked away from the Church in my youth. Since then, I found myself better suited as a Goddess-worshiping, woman-affirming Pagan.

Thank you for your sentiments, Smelly Feet. Rest assured, God was with me with I walked. I held onto my spiritual connection in spite of the Church. Wicca gave me a more balanced way to relate to God (as both Mother and Father)

And to Fish <><, some of us straight men are firmly against misogyny as well. I love women too much to put them down. Unlike the people of Paul & Jesus' time, we no longer have reason to see women as "partially formed men." We are not two types of humans as they believed.

This is simply a statement about homosexuality. Unfortunately, women had limited value at that time. Paul was speaking to people in that day and time in a way that they understood.

Some translations read the natural function of the woman. I believe that this is mostly used to describe natural use of their body specifically regarding sex. I don't believe that Paul was describing women as good only for that purpose.

I'm sorry that you felt you had to walk away. I am certain that God has felt sorrow over the mistreatment and misunderstanding of women. Please know that churches are full of humans. God's love for you is perfect.

nicely, i'm a woman, yet i think of that organic is a lot greater beautiful than the pretend "barbie doll look" as you stated. i do no longer think of that girls who pretend tan, dye their hair, and positioned on distinctive makeup are very beautiful. I wish women could only look the way they do of course. it is almost like they are protecting up who they are actually. nonetheless, i think of shaving is appropriate :) i'm able to comprehend the organic-ness of letting hair boost, and that i truthfully have carried out it until now, yet continually finally end up lacking that soft feeling... organic is gorgeous. And, modest is maximum well-liked.

it said likewise the natural use of man also, so we just use each other. The man has a role and the woman has a role. But a lot of women and men these days resent that, thus for screwing up the natural order of things which in turn causes, rising divorce rates, and gay and lesbianism. Please believe it.

you mean you find the idea that the "use of women" is for men to have sex with them as misogynistic? Some Christians will try to tell you that being thought of as an object should be a compliment.

It could be easy to go where you want to go with this wording, but I encourage you to remember that the phraseology and coloring of language has changed since this was written.

If you read scripture and get hung up on things like this, you will miss what you were suppose to get out of it.

Leaving the natural use of the woman to lust after men certainly implies that the only use for a woman is to have sex with.

They meant cooking and cleaning. That's why god made women with smaller feet than men... so that they could stand closer to the kitchen sink.

Misogynistic? Only to a gay person trying to get acceptance. Still doesn't work.
