Well, here are my feelings on welfare. They offer food assistance, cash assistance, medical assistance, etc. I do believe that people take extreme advantage of this. For example, I have a friend who just up and quit her job one day and lived off the state for a good 9 months before even trying to get a job. They were paying for her food, housing, daycare, electric..all that stuff while she just sat back and accepted it all. I think it should only be available to people that absolutely need it. These young girls who go out and repeatedly get pregnant and have the government pay their way is absolutely ridiculous! They are taking advantage of every aspect of the program and there's nothing we can do about it simply because pregnant women who are single have all the advantage in the world. I believe if they altered the system that maybe things would change. But people who are disabled and need medical assistance, being that anything to do with the medical field is expensive, should be able to access it. Or people that are out of work due to being laid off or something of that sort should be able to receive assistance until they can get back on their feet. But people who just sit around and collect for the heck of it really need to get some motivation and go find a job. Other people out there are working hard to provide for their families AND we're paying for people that don't have the ambition. It IS ridiculous and very upsetting!

I really wish you would've have asked this. Ok, here goes:
Welfare should ONLY be given to those who actually need it (e.g. single mothers working full-time and raising children, disabled (really disabled, as in not able to work. Not "oh I hurt my back now give me $800 in disability, then I'll go work 10 hours a week doing odds-n-ends jobs, get paid in cash, and screw the government out of taxes), people between jobs, laid off from work, etc.
I personally know of a family that has 4 adults (ages 20, 24, 42, and 46) and three children living in ONE two bedroom house. All of the adults are perfectly capable of working, yet only two work, on average about 40 hours/MONTH a piece. They get over $750/month in food stamps! That's over $100/person/month! My wife and I both work full-time and can only afford to spend about $300/month ($75 for 4 family members) for our groceries. Now tell me, why is it fair that my family WORKS and has less than these welfare/food stamp/disability losers that don't do &*#$.
If I were President, my first order would be to create an "Office of Welfare and Disability Fraud". The sole purpose of this office would be to keep track of and track down those who were abusing the welfare system. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever than ANYONE (barring severe disability) should be on food stamps for their entire life! If you're 40 years old and making minimum wage, there's a reason for it; it's called ambition. If you get a job and stick with it, you'll advance; it's as simple as that. Working for 6 months, quitting, working somewhere else for a year, getting fire, so on and so on will get you NOWHERE! Grow up, get a job, and quit getting handouts.
I swear, every time I stand in line at a grocery store and see some lazy *** * of a *$* with a cart piled full of name brand foods, steaks, and Doritos, then they whip out their Food Stamps, oh sorry, it's called an EBT Debit card now. It'd be a pity to embarrass the lazy @$$ son *( A (*#($*, I want to start stomping faces.
The government should require than ANYONE not severly disabled to do community service in order to receive their foods stamps. If you can walk and wipe your own @$$, then you should be out on the streets picking up trash in order to receive food stamps.
Ok, now you see why I said you shouldn't have asked this question. I'm so mad now I'm going to have to take a *$.

I agree with you. The problem is that many of these bums spend their time working the system rather than getting a job and they're impossible to catch. The thing is, some people really need this assistance and that's how many people use it, assistance. However, to cut back in hopes of hurting those that are milking the system would ultimately hurt the legitimately needy more.

I totally agree with you. Why is it these lardasses get to sit down and collect all of our tax dollars. They should get jobs like normal people. Welfare just needs to have stricker rules. Help people in need, once they get back on track they need to cut them lose. Give them a time frame and if they didn't fix their lives then that's their problems. maybe that's why there are so many you know who laying around doing nothing and then they whine about how they're always getting harrased or can't find a job. maybe they should look for one instead of selling drugs and collecting their moms welfare check.

I hope no one attempts to change your view on this. It would be really sad if someone actually thinks it's good for people to depend on the government for financial survival for an extended period of time. But it is true - welfare is becoming an epidemic, almost like a caste system. People are born into it and later die, never getting off of public aid.

Totally agree. It's time to get rid of welfare.
I know, some people really need it. There were people in need before welfare programs and they were supported by the local community, where it was easy to see if the need was real or not. Of course, they didn't get money for satellite TV and hardly you would see one of them overweighted. Some got on their feet, some didn't. Some tried to cheat, some moved to another community where people wouldn't know about their history, some were abandoned and died.
I'm pretty sure that there's at least one sad unfair story out there. But the way it is now, millions are sacrificed to support people that abuse the system. And those who really really need it, don't get it, are abandoned and die.
It's time to get rid of welfare. It's a better solution.

Well, you can't stereotype everyone, or a large number of people who are on government assistance, my Mom and Dad are on Medicaid back in Illinois. (They are both disabled). I will be on Medicaid until the end of January here in Missouri, but I work at a hard job only making minimum wage, and Medicaid is going to end for me at the end of January, because I can't be on it after I turn 19. I do think though, that government assistance should be reserved for the working poor, the disabled, and the elderly. If someone is able to work, they should have to work. Yes, there are people who do abuse the system, but you can't hold that against everyone who is on government assistance. I think people who cheat the government should be sent to prison, and never be allowed to recieve government aid for the rest of thier life

* I agree... they need to make them go out and at least attempt to get a job at some point... instead what they do is pop out another kid so that they can keep collecting it.... talk about overpopulating... not only are they eating up our money to sit on their asses but they are bringing more kids into this worl that they cannot afford, nor can our economy....Dont get me wrong, I have used assistance in the past, but only to actually get by while not being able to work... I didnt abuse the system like a lot of people do... who imght I remind you, are driving nicer cars than me!*

You are right! What I want to know is how people have baby after baby on Medicaid and no one does one damn thing about it??? It costs $250,000 to raise a kid from birth through high school - then add an additional $50,000 on top of that for a college degree. I KNOW Medicaid recipients can't afford that! Our government and its welfare programs are out of control and maybe with this election something will be introduced to stop this shameful waste. I want my country back!!!

Kindof. I grew up on the kindness of strangers.(church, relitives, and state assistance) If a person needs it it's there. But sadly many leech the system and are comfortable living on welfare. Where I'm at it's hard to find work but many ppl are trying to better themselves and get off it.
