How many of you actually think anyone reads those extensive excerpts from Scripture, the Quran, or whatever? And what makes you think that someone who doesn't already accept that those works are Divinely inspired will be convinced by them?
This really is a serious question.

Justyd - (hope I spelled your name right): One or two verses is fine. Something that wears out my mouse-wheel scrolling through seems a tad excessive.
Cathy - Honestly, luv, Christians and Muslims are the only ones I see doing that. You're right, in that most Christians and Muslims don't engage in that. But, being Christian myself, I find it most frustrating when it's a Christian doing it.

Shiny - Yeah, that's exactly what I mean. Thank you for the horrible example.

If it is really a serious question then don't make sweeping generalizations such as Christians and Muslims being fans of cut and paste, just say fans of cut and paste. I would say the majority of any group does not do that on a regular basis.
I think like trolls they play the percentage game, knowing most will not read it but if you do it enough someone eventually will.

This is a pretty good question.
I usually try to find a Bible passage to back up my point because my opinion alone is worth absolutely nothing, but my opinion backed up with something else has a greater weight, even if it is not something you consider noteworthy
However, I agree that too much usually causes someone not to read. It is hard to balance when I genuinely want to make a point of proof, but must limit the idea to a "soundbite"

There are fewer Muslim postings, yet i imagine the dimensions of the decrease and paste solutions is a similar. i have also suggested that Christians frequently cite the version, e book, financial ruin and verse they pasted from, even as Muslims do no longer.

If someone asks for a scripture I copy and paste..Same with quotes from famous people..I also add the sites where I got my info..Same with questions on science. I have been accused of copy and pasting when I have used my own words..

People who ask questions in search of real answers do read the long answers, cut and paste or not. People who are looking to pass the time (ironically) don't bother themselves with long answers.
I'm one that happily reads long answers no matter who writes them. And I appreciate the people who go out of their way to explain things and give detailed answers rather than a few word "because that's how it is" answer, lol!

I'm a dope, thought you meant long answers, lol! I don't particularly like cut and paste fans (unless it's specifically asked for in the question) because it tells me that the person doesn't really understand the material for himself. Unless it's an explanation and quotations are used as references or evidence. I myself don't use passages unless they involve something in my answer or if the user specifically asks for passages, like in this Q:

Not me. I don't come to YA to read a book, especially one that is copied verbatim off the net. Keep your answers short, sweet and to the point!
Cheers!

Yep...I just saw one from a Muslim. Practically took up the whole page. I never read them and I doubt if others do either.

I dun do it.
I also don't read long C&P of religious material... unless I specifically asked someone to show me which particular bit he/she was talking about.

I think that if they ask for a scripture or text, then why wouldn't someone who answers cut and paste it?
