I've downloaded quite a few free photoediting programs... but nothing that helps me edit the background properly. Or maybe I am just too impatient? I need to change the background of ONE photo so I don't really want to pay for it! If anyone can recommend a good editing program that they KNOW will help me in editing my background, it would be GREATLY appreciated!

I've tried Picasa and photoshop (the free version is extremely limited in features).

Try Gimp. It's a free and seems to be pretty good from what I've heard. If you don't have much experience with photo editing programs though, you should find a forum that has to do with the program you're using and ask questions there.

Gimp will do what you want but the documentation is pretty basic. There are tutorials online that will for the most part show you how to change the background of a photo using Gimp.

In some versions of microsoft office they have a program called picture manager, this may be useful in formatting the background if you have it.
