There have always existed atheists people. -if not too openly.
Jesus was a sample, not a sermon unless you wanted one.
The only times he got mad and cursed was at the self righteous religious folks. Ironic.
( Even Jesus lost he temper with them. )
I wish Jesus were alive to day.
I can imagine him saying to George W. Bush :
"Why do you war in my name, you foul hypocrite?"
Gorge Bush would probably reply after ten minutes with "I..I..I..I..I..I.. I'm..I'm the decider!"

Those people are not atheists like you and I. They will, of course, rant at that statement, but there is NOTHING short of proof that would convert a real, intelligent atheist and if God were going to prove himself to one it stands to reason he would prove himself to all of us. I believe that type of "atheist" is the type that calls themselves atheist without ever really thinking about it. They make the claim that they believe there is no god, but that claim really doesn't mean anything to them and they haven't put a lot of thought into it. Personally, I became atheist after a 2 year search for God. I put a LOT of thought into it and a LOT of effort. Unlike these people, atheism wasn't a choice for me. It was a conclusion. I think the major difference between that lot and the rest of us is that they CHOSE to be atheist whereas we actually figured it out. For them it was a choice, for us it was a realization. Of course, I could be all wrong there. I really have no idea how a mind works that can go from atheist to theist. All I know is that it doesn't work like mine does. I suppose that's extra hard to figure out because they will never really tell you how it happened, just that they "found God". I know from my experience as a fundie in my youth that when you don't come out and say something it's because you're hiding something, albeit subconsciously, because you haven't yet figured out how to say it so that people don't realize what you know subconsciously, but won't admit, that there is SOMETHING wrong with your story or belief.

I never threaten Hell. It does say clearly in the bible that the way to Heaven is Jesus and without that we will spend an eternity without HIm. Atheists ask "what if" questions all the time, and then get apalled by the answers.
Jesus went around showing the goodness of God and showing miracles of God, but he did let non believers know of consequences. Why would he die and then rise from the grave if there wasn't something AWFUL he was saving us from???

Jesus told a story about sowing seeds onto the ground.
Apparently only 1/4 of the seeds fell on good ground meaning that Jesus was batting only .250. Babe Ruth had a season where he batted above .400.

If you are told about Jesus and refuse Him it is on your head. You will answer to God for it.
If you do not know about Jesus ,and I know that, but I do not tell you I will be held responsible for not telling you.
I think there are only a few, if any, people in the world that does not know of Jesus.
I think Christians today are keeping the door open to help those who might want to find God but are unsure how to do it.

You know, I don't believe there were Atheists at that time, oddly enough people then knew of God and knew that He was the God of Israel and respected that
I don't condemn you and you are free to believe whatever you want to
I am born again and I love you as a human being and I respect you
please don't put all believers in the category of hatefulness, we are not all like that

Jesus was only really interested in converting Jews.
Matthew 10 makes that pretty clear.

As I understand the stories, didn't he out of his way not to annoy the normal people? I mean he went to the mountains, and only the people who wanted to hear followed him... Doesn't sound like someone really trying to convert anyone...

There weren't any atheists at that time or at that place in the world. At least not in the same way atheists exist today. You have to understand there are differences in the world of today and of that time.
