Isn't it possible that the story of Adam and Eve or Genesis were just allegories of evolution. Making the earth in 7 days (the big bang theory), God making Adam and Eve (our evolution, not from "monkeys", but ape like creatures).
And don't give me,"Well, the Bible said it, so it must be true, der her her." I already have an answer for that:
In the book of Leviticus, it says that any child who curses his parents should be put to death. Now, if you are going to believe one thing just because the Bible says it, you should believe all of it. You can't just pick and choose, right? (According to some of your beliefs.)

To Fireball: Are you illiterate or just dumb? If you want to believe in creation, that's fine, more power to you. But in my question, I stated NOT to mention the Bible.

The sad part is, I'm not surprised that some of you so-called "Christians" are insulting me instead of trying to answer the question with a logical answer. I'm not here to bash your beliefs, so stop trying to do so to mine.
And to Egghead Charlie- Why is it so dumb to want to believe in something bigger than all of us? I'm not saying you have to, I just want to know why.

My grandfather was a geologist who discovered dinosaur remains...very religious who saw no problem with reconciling the bible with modern science and evolution....
The world is not 8,000 years old...and christians who believe that are simply fools.....on the other hand....if christians would permit the possibility of tough questions being explained in the bible through allegorical methods...to appease an appetite for knowledge before adequate scientific method could help men understand our universe, perhaps the inquisition might have been avoided, great minds spared instead of persecuted simply because they proved the world revolved around the sun and not the other way around....
In sociological terms, people feel grounded through their connections of church (spiritual or religious belief system), society and state....if you upset one of those groundings...well, you really mess up that person...a loss of a belief system you were raised up in is truly a major deal....

"You can't believe in both the bible and evolution at the same time so which one is right or wrong." Why not? Honestly, I'm not one to be able to argue this point very well myself but I have heard it before and it made a lot of sense. The bible never tells you exactly how old the earth is, the way we got our current "6000" some-odd years is a Catholic priest counted back the generations of kings. Or families. Honestly don't remember. But either way it wasn't a biblical date. Just what some priest thought. The story of creation in Genesis gives no time frame either. We have translated it into English and have only used the word day which has lost meaning. How long was a day? Sure we only have the one word in English but the original language uses multiple words that mean different things. One is more of a span of time, not a literal 24 hour day. For example, the phrase, "In this day and age" does not literally mean today, but more of this general time, year, or decade. So does the bible really say there wasn't evolution? I don't think so. However, I wouldn't think its evolution exactly as modern science says it is. Nobody really knows the truth, and I honestly don't think it matters THAT much. Christianity is about so much more then how the Earth was made.

I see no substantial conflicts between evolution and the Bible; the problem seems to come with having such a small idea of God that one can't see the process of creation taking place long term; or, that one can't see a divine purpose behind it rather than a bunch of random accidents.
It's been my experience that people who have an understanding of what the biblical texts actually say, and people who have a good grasp of cosmology and evolutionary biology, have better discussions on the subject than people who only know "this is my side so it must be right."

Some of the books of the Bible are historical. Those books are literal records of Earth's history. This includes the book of Genesis. There is absolutely no scientific or logical reason to reject a literal interpretation of Genesis. First, if we look at the actual scientific facts, we will find that they do not support evolution, but rather a young Earth, a global Flood and intelligent design.
Also, any god that created Man out of "millions of years of suffering, misfits and death" must be a dumb god. My God did it right the first time.
Also, if you try to fit evolution in with God, you have to throw out most of the Bible. When Christ was here 2,000 years ago, He confirmed the Truth of all Scripture. He even referred to Adam as if he were a real person, because he was.
Also, if you are descended from animals, then there's no such thing as sin, and if there's no such thing as sin, then Christ died in vain and you are without hope. Think about that one.

Good point.
I don't bother to debate it...just because nobody will ever really know.
Either it is plain evolution, or God created evolution. Whatever happened, this world is brilliant and awesome.
However, come on people...I will never believe that woman was made from Adam's RIB. Ugh.
Honestly...if God created Adam, most likely God is a woman. We are the only beings that can create another human, and a man cannot (Adam, etc). One who believes the bible must believe ALL of it, for to remain lukewarm is heresy.

Forst things first...evolution could have been made by God, no one says that God could not have done that. There is a difference between believing something is possible and believeing something is truth. I believe the Bible to be truth and I believe God created us just as we are today. AND I don't believe that evolution is factual or even probable (I believed that BEFORE I became a Christian and WHILE I studied biology as a major). Second, I don't stone my child for cursing me (which meant asking God to bring harm to parents, not simply saying a bad word) because I am not under the old testament law. Ask followers of Judaism why they don't stone their children, not Christians who are saved by grace and not bound to the Law.

First, the "big bang" has big scientific problems. the main one is you have order spontaneously coming for chaos. Could you point to another event where chaos brought about order? God created the world as stated in Genesis, in six days(not seven). Adam and Eve are specifically referred to as man and woman, not some derivation or some sort of beast.
Mar 10:6 But from the beginning of creation "God made them male and female." (Gen. 1:27)
Mar 10:7 "Because of this, a man shall leave his father and mother and shall be joined to his wife,
Mar 10:8 and the two shall be one flesh;" so that they no longer are two, but one flesh. (Gen. 2:24)
Before you jump on the "male and female" thing, Jesus was answering a question concerning divorce, which I don't believe animals partake in.
Using the Levitical laws to support your position, leaves you on weak ground. The Levitical laws were meant for the Israelites only, not the entire world.
by the way, "Gnostic" and "Christian" are mutually exclusive terms.

If evolution were the method that God used to create life then the theory would point in His direction not away from Him.

The bible saids it! so it must be true. There is know way a
christian can not believe the bible and what it saids as literal truth. What you as most non-believers cannot grasp! is the fact that there is a God and the bible is one of his tools use to communcation his wishes of a godly life style to the christian.
