My heater works fine blowing through the front vents of the car. But, when I turn on the defroster or set it on automatic, it still blows out the front vents. When I put it on the floor, it still comes out of the front vents. Anyone know why?

Probably a vacuum leak that's not allowing the heater to change modes....the heater ductwork under the dash has various doors to direct airflow to the windshield, dash or floor and these doors are usually controlled by vacuum or electrical actuators. If you have a vacuum leak or a bad dash switch/valve, they won't operate. Have a shop check it out for a vacuum leak first (if they are vacuum operated)...I believe they are.
