I'd suggest you check with your doctor or at least your pharmacist.

Great question! I'm a therapist and work a lot with folks recovering from depression. The bad news is that almost all the antidepressants (SSRIs) come with side effects.

Wellbutrin is probably the one medication that my clients report the least amount of side effects on. Interestingly though, this medicine does not seem to help much for those I've worked with.

If your depression is mild you could benefit from some natural resources such as Fish Oil, St. John's Wort or SAMe. These have all shown good results for mild depression. And, the overall health benefits of Fish Oil are fantastic. My whole family takes Fish Oil.

In three big studies in the last 6 years, Fish Oil beat out two of the top three antidepressants.

Don't forget about therapy. In counseling you can learn essential life and coping skills that may allow you to go medicine-free.

a final note: anytime you have questions about side effects call up your local pharmacist. These folks are incredibly well-trained and can offer good, accurate information for you.

All the best!

Every anti-depressant has a lengthy list of possible side effects, but just because it's listed doesn't mean you'll experience it. Your body will react to the medications differently than anyone else, so there is no way of knowing which medication would have the least side effects for you without trying them. Wellbutrin and Cymbalta are the least likely to cause weight gain, but most of them have weight gain and weight loss as possible side effects. Talk to your doctor about which med might work for you.

Many people have no side effects from Lexapro. There is no antidepressant that will not cause those side effects in at least a few people. You need to test each one at a low dose to know which one will not cause you side effects.

I'm not sure about eye pain and weight gain, but I know that Effexor is brutal if you ever want to wean yourself off it. Effexor is really harsh for some of it's side effects, such as sleeping. I had to take a sleeping pill with it. And then I had terrible side effects trying to wean myself off that too! I'm sorry that's all I know about that.

Exercise; It releases endorphins (happy chemicals), great for weight loss, lowers blood pressure.

They all have side effects. It's best to talk to your doctor which one would be best for you. I, personally, am taking Cymbalta, and I love it.
