Making it so "taboo." The more something is forbidden, the more people want it....like teenagers and drinking and smoking. They think it's so cool because it's something they're not allowed to do. If they were allowed to, it wouldn't be cool to do it. It would be like drinking a coke or something....big deal.

by associating sports events with substances such as beer and tobacco.

Bud lite bowl, any base ball player with chew in his mouth, Milwaukee brewers... The list is endless...

But it is all in the name of profit for stock holders, not substance abuse. that is a secondary problem which the producers are not responsible for.

By hiding it away and not talking about it. By keeping it a mystery it encourages the youth to experiment.

there are such countless distinctive video clips that make being severe/inebriated appear like it will make for truly humorous circumstances (comedies)... 0.5 baked, harold and kumar circulate to white citadel, superbad, previous college, etc. the checklist is going on perpetually classified ads.. nicely, of direction all classified ads that sell a type of alcohol attempt to make it seem cool/humorous (budweiser)

They encourage it because they say we can not do it. We all know what happens when we are told we can't do it, we rebel against authority, especially in the teenager stages of life.

I guess a Martian would think it pretty funny that the height of hospitality is to give your guests a poison. Not getting at any one, I do it myself.
