It depends on your state and gun laws and if you have a criminal record.... if you live in NY, NJ or CA..... you might as well move..... if you have a criminal record you will never own a firearm..... if you are clean and you live in a great state like I do... Kentucky..... it take me 5 minutes for a background check and im out the door, and that includes semi autos.... :)

It is really no problem if you have a clean criminal record. Or rather I should say, if you have NO criminal record. There more than likely will be a waiting period to buy one. Or you could go to a gun show and buy a used handgun. Thats pretty easy to do.
If you buy from a retailer, they are going to make you do the paperwork and get a quick check done, just for the bushmaster. For the handgun you will more than likely have the 3-day.
The amount of hassle is going to have to do with the state that you live in.
Good Luck!

In most areas of the country , it is easy, if you have no criminal record. You go to the store, pick out your gun, fillout the federal form 4473, get cleared via an instant backgroung check, pay for your purchase, and walk out the door with your gun. In anti gun regions like cities in NY, Illinois, and CA, you will have waiting periods, and maybe not even be able to buy handguns at all.

That depends on where you live. The last one I bought, I showed them my driver's license, filled out the form and a check, and walked out with it. It took less time than it took me to browse. Where the government is afraid of the people they theoretically work for, it can be more complicated.

Easy, if you have no criminal record. Just have to fill out a form to check your background.

I agree with Stephen. You should also look in the local papers for "guns for sale" sometimes it is easier and cheaper.

It is easy as heck for law-abiding citizens, and impossible for convicted felons and criminals.
God Bless Texas.
