If you lie and you get caught, it will be much tougher for you down the line. Don't do it. Eventually most people who lie on their work experience/resumes get caught.

Don't lie. As the others have said, if you get caught you will be fired.
Instead, look for a receptionist position where the employer is willing to train you. Even if you the number of lines you wil be required to answer are few, it will give you a chance to gain some experience. Also is the option of trying to gain some experience through working with temporary agencies. The more chances you have, even short term, you will have more experience and the next time you interview for full-time employment, you won't have to lie.

If they check your references you'll never get the first call and being a receptionist is more about presentation then it is experience. If you get called for an interview, knock them dead with your personality. Besides the fact that you should never lie because it will always bite you in the butt later.

Don't do it because if you do get the job, you are expected to perform the tasks of the receptionist. What if the company requires you to answer a 10- line phone and you can only answer 4 lines? You can't expect your supervisor of the company to teach you because no one trains anymore these days. You will be fired on the first day.

IGNORE all these answers telling you not to lie. There is no way to lose. If they call and find out you lied then all they can do is not offer you the job that you don't have anyway. I suggest finding a place that recently went out of business and say you worked there. There is no way for them to check.

Why not?? Because lying on an application is grounds for termination. You aren't going to be able to back up the lie. They will know almost immediately that you don't have experience. Be honest and let them know how willing you are to train.

I wouldn't worry too much about the accounting experience given the position you are applying for. But when asked, be honest. Don't say "none", say "took classes in school, audited invoices, balanced checkbooks", etc. -- whatever experience you have that you feel is closest to what they're asking for.

Why lie? Wouldn't it make more sense to tell the truth?
If you lie and get found out, you are likely to get fired even if you do get the job.
