I try to drink only water when at home. But if I happen to eat out for dinner or lunch my water intake goes down dramatically.

On an average day (where I am home for about half of my waking hours) I typically drink about four or five 12-ounce glasses of water. Anymore than that and I am on my way to the restroom every hour, and pretty close to on the hour (from when I drank the water). But I do have days when I am more active (or when in the summer heat), and I drink about six to eight 12-ounce glasses of water.

it all depends on the time of year. I live in Vegas so summers are very hot, I drink at least 2 gallons during the summer and at least 1 gallon any other time of the year, i'm also 250 lbs and in single digit body fat so a have a lot of muscle.

the recommended 8 glass of water is for the average sedentary individual. athletes and those that get regular exercise will need substantially more than that to keep the body well hydrated.

for optimal efficiency, the body requires a minimum of 2 liters a day. I generally drink three for good measure.
