The answer is... There isn't any! Wait, you mean in Windows Explorer? What version you have? I have Windows Vista Home Prenium. (Spelled wrong.) Microsoft decided to remove the file menu. You have to right click now.

Open up explorer on start menu and press to reveal the traditional etc menus.

Good luck with Vista. I've had it for 4 months on a new laptop and really like it.

Press the and just start typing the name of the program or file you wish to find.

In my experience Vista finds what I'm after and I only need type the first few letters.

Turn on

and you'll be able to type

photos taken last week

etc.

at the start search box.

I don't know why it isn't turned on by default.

I think you will find a similar submenu by clicking on the Microsoft button - at the extreme top, left.
